State AGs Letter on Impeachment

Uploaded byThe Western Journal

Description:Letter from 21 state attorneys general to the Senate on the impeachment of President TrumpFull description

Attorneys General of: South Carolina, Louisiana, Utah, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida. Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia

January 22, 2020

The Honorable Members of the United States Senate
c/o The Honorable Julie E. Adams
Secretary of Senate
United States Capitol
Washington, D.C.
20510

Dear Members,

As Attorneys General of 21 States whose citizens and Electoral College delegates voted in the 2016 presidential election, we have a special duty to defend the integrity of the votes cast by those citizens and electors during that election. However, our interests go well beyond that particular election. This impeachment proceeding threatens all future elections and establishes a dangerous historical precedent. That new precedent will erode the separation of powers shared by the executive and legislative branches by subjugating future Presidents to the whims of the majority opposition party in the House of Representatives. Thus, our duty to current and future generations commands us to urge the Senate to not only reject the two articles of impeachment contained in H. Res. 755—“abuse of power” and “obstruction of Congress”—as lacking in any plausible or reasonable evidentiary basis, but also as being fundamentally flawed as a matter of constitutional law.

Very astute and cogent analysis worth reading.

That’s what’s McConnell should have done immediately. Send them right back to the house as deficient and therefore he’s not impeached. Declare it null and void. then they can argue back and forth forever in history on whether or not Trump was actually impeached, but it will always go down as being rejected .... that’s one and only thing that will be remembered.

God bless these 21 AGs.

It takes the States to school the Senate, and DC.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this permitted exposé is designed to give the GOP a stronger retaliatory standing.

He couldn’t have done what you propose. The Constitution lays out what has to happen. Nothing else is possible. There is no possible “rejection” of the Articles of Impeachment by the Senate. Where’d you get such an idea? Have you read the Constitution’s pertinent provisions on this topic?

Just sad that they could only get 40% plus one AGs to sign on.

Couldn’t help but notice that the AGs of California, New York, Massachusetts and other “True Blue” states were missing from the signatures.

Then again, I understand that the bozos on CNN thought Schiff-for-brains made a lot of “brilliant” arguments today.

There are 26 Republican AG’s. What is sad is that they couldn’t get the other 5 to sign on so that there was the headline “majority of State AGs”.

Arizona is noticeably absent, plus ID, NH, ND and WY

I am extremely dismayed that Idaho did not join the 21 states in this letter. Thanks for bringing to my attention, Sword. I just wrote to Governor Little asking why Idaho did not join the 21 states in this.

The states should amend the Constitution to require a 2/3 vote of the House to impeach, rather than a simple majority.

Such a requirement would make a purely partisan impeachment like this one nearly impossible, and help ensure that the impeachment clause is used only as intended by the framers, to punish high crimes and misdemeanors, and could not easily be abused by a majority party for political retribution.

Obviously the communist states wouldn’t sign. But there are a LOT of notable conservative states that did not sign including my very conservative Idaho. That infuriates me to no end. I just wrote to our Governor asking why we didn’t join.

WOW, just WOW!

This is exactly how the faux impeachment should be addressed by the Senate.

My guess is that the founding fathers believed that future congresses would look HONESTLY to the Constitution before attempting an impeachment. They probably couldn’t foresee people such as Schitt, Peelosi and Nadsler ever being United States Congressmen.

The sad fact is that the other AG’s (Soros puppets) support the coup.

The Colorado AG doesn’t care about Colorado voters. I will remember that.
