Alan Dershowitz: 'I'm Not a Full-Fledged Member' of Impeachment Defense Team

President Donald Trump’s legal defense team is working toward a Monday deadline to submit a defense brief against charges filed by House prosecutors in the Senate trial that is set to begin in earnest next week.

Among the president’s legal team is Harvard law professor and constitutional law expert Alan Dershowitz, who says he’ll be making a constitutional argument against impeachment.

Dershowitz was a part of O.J. Simpson’s legal “dream team” and has defended several controversial clients, including Jeffrey Epstein. Despite voting for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, Dershowitz has been a vocal defender of Trump, going so far as to write a book called “The Case Against Impeaching Trump.”

Dershowitz spoke with WCBS 880’s John Metaxas on Saturday about the responsibility he’ll have in the impeachment trial, emphasizing that he’s playing “a limited role in the defense.”

“I’m only going to make the argument, the constitutional argument, against the articles of impeachment,” he said. “It’s an important role, because that’s a central issue in the case, but I’m not going to be part of the strategic defense team. I’m not going to be involved in the issue of witnesses we’re calling. I’m not going to be deeply involved in the facts. I’m going to really be an advocate against impeachment based on the Constitution.”

Dershowitz said that means he’s acting as a lawyer on the president’s side of the impeachment issue, appearing in a “limited capacity focusing.”

“I am an advocate,” he said. “But I’m not a full-fledged member of the team in the sense that I am not participating in strategic decisions. I’m not getting involved in the facts,” he said.

Yep no surprise at all.... Dershowitz is not trust worthy.

The other day when I heard this guy and Ken Star were part of President Trump's defense I had a bad feeling about this.

That’s disappointing. He’s a great defense lawyer.

The Dersh. You either love him or hate. Or both at the same time.

I admire and respect his legal mind. He is right about this impeachment nonsense being a farce.

Yet he is a liberal sleaze ball. No better than Epstein or Bill Clinton.

Would not trust this globalist, abortion loving, narcissistic Democrat to litigate a traffic ticket. Any adult that self identifies as a Democrat is morally flawed and should never be trusted in any matter of importance.

No one has been a stronger opponent to impeachment, so don’t worry about the strategery.

I'm not seeing a problem with this... it sounds like his role is limited to making the Constitutional argument.

I think Dersh’s lodestone here is Israel. He’s very pro-Israel, and objective enough to notice that the Dems have become anti-Semitic in general and anti-Israel specifically. Bernie even mentioned taking funds destined for Israel and reassigning them to Hamas.

Trump is pro-Israel, and Dersh likes that. Plus, he’s getting a high-profile raw deal, which is procedural fun for a brilliant lawyer to weigh in on.

He never took off his underwear when the 13 year old girl was massaging him on pedophile island.

"Yet he is a liberal sleaze ball. No better than Epstein or Bill Clinton."

Dershowitz has been directly tied to Espstein, and is being sued by some of Epstein's accusers.

It is my understanding that Mr. Dershowitz will give a one hour presentation on the Constitution and Impeachment. He is not offering any “advice” to President Trump’s legal team.

On Hannity’s show last night, Mr. Dershowitz stated that his briefing will state that impeachment must include a “crime”.

He also stated that within the phrase in the Constitution “...Treason, Bribery and other high crimes and misdemeanors”, the terms “high crimes and misdemeanors” should be serious crimes equivalent to treason or bribery.

People need to get a grip here. Basically Dershowitz is saying he’s on the team as a wide receiver to catch TD passes. Don’t get snarky with him because he’s not going to kick field goals too.

He's the other hand behind the back. As they lick their wounds after the Demwits destroy themselves on national TV, they'll be able to take comfort in the fact that they didn't have to face Dersh.

I don’t see a problem with this. Basically, he is defending the President by arguing the unconstitutionality of the whole impeachment. Why does anyone have a problem with that?
