On Monday, President Donald Trump's legal defense team filed a 109-page brief (171 pages long including appendices) urging the U.S. Senate to reject the Democrats' articles of impeachment. The letter deconstructed the impeachment case and denounced the very charges as "an affront to the Constitution."
"The Articles of Impeachment now before the Senate are an affront to the Constitution and to our democratic institutions. The Articles themselvesand the rigged process that brought them hereare a brazenly political act by House Democrats that must be rejected," the lawyers wrote. "They debase the grave power of impeachment and disdain the solemn responsibility that power entails."
"The process that brought the articles here violated every precedent and every principle of fairness followed in impeachment inquiries for more than 150 years. Even so, all that House Democrats have succeeded in proving is that the President did absolutely nothing wrong," Trump's legal team argued. "After focus-group testing various charges for weeks, House Democrats settled on two flimsy Articles of Impeachment that allege no crime or violation of law whatsoevermuch less 'high Crimes and Misdemeanors,' as required by the Constitution. They do not remotely approach the constitutional threshold for removing a President from office."
Yet fighting this impeachment is about more than just defending the president, the lawyers argued. "The diluted standard asserted here would permanently weaken the Presidency and forever alter the balance among the branches of government in a manner that offends the constitutional design established by the Founders," they wrote. "House Democrats jettisoned all precedent and principle because their impeachment inquisition was never really about discovering the truth or conducting a fair investigation. Instead, House Democrats were determined from the outset to find some wayany wayto corrupt the extraordinary power of impeachment for use as a political tool

Its a megasham for the Dummycrats.
Will the senate have the gonads to do the right thing and dismiss this POS?....
Will the senate have the gonads to do the right thing and dismiss this POS?....
Trump doing what he does best “ their work for them”
Fill in the accomplishment - trade, employment, deregulation etc.
He’s taking it to the people this way if they allow this kabuki theater to extend too long.
Mitch M has been put on record, do your procedural, but then GET RID OF IT...
Rinos, you have been shown how your “ concern” will be nuked back on you if you side with Dems on anything.
Go Donald... We are with you
If John Roberts lets this trial go on, you will know who he really is.
Those that brought us to this point should be lined up against a wall and...
I know its tough to do because you try to maintain a positive outlook, but try not to associate gonads with the Republicans. Conservatives yes, GOPe no. All it takes is one look a Romney and you know. Im married to a hockey mom with more testicular fortitude than Republicans. Shes been that way for all our 47 years together.
And so it begins. I have two initial thoughts:
1. I have confidence in Trump’s legal team
2. I have confidence in the better judgement of ALL the Republicans. Even the weak ones won’t be able to go along with this sham. It is possible they will vote for witnesses, but in the end, they will vote for acquittal.
Call me overly optimistic... but I am optimistic.
I don’t think the Chief Justice has the power to dismiss the articles. The Constitution just says he shall “preside” while it’s the Senate itself that has “sole power” to try impeachments. A dismissal would have to be by Senate vote.
I don’t think Roberts has much if anything to do. I think it’s up to the Senate.
This trial should be dismissed now. But Republicans are gutless. I refuse to watch any of it.
He does not. Presiding over the trial yes but making decisions, ANY decision concerning procedure would be usurping Senatorial purview.
So easy even a caveman can do it.
The brief contains an excellent examination of why Trump’s asking Zelensky to “look into” the Biden corruption on the phone call was entirely justified and proper. It starts on page 99 and lays the foundation for why Hunter and Joe would be called as witnesses if the articles are not simply dismissed.
When the impeachment is over bet many sinks will be found with bloody razor blades in them.
We already know who and what he is.
“If John Roberts lets this trial go on, you will know who he really is.”
1. I think (don’t know for sure) he doesn’t have power to continue it or make it stop.
2. We’ve known who he is since June 2012.
A Word About Democrats And The Reeducation Of The American People
Leftists are big on reeducating we, the people. To them, we are too simpleminded to understand complex policy issues.
We do not know “what is best” for us. They, alone, have the answers.
Our moral and intellectual “betters” will shape our lives to make the world “a better prlace.”
All it takes is a bruising bunch of political power; ala the Hitler, Stalin, and Mao models.
After all, these storied heroes made the world a “Utopia.” (cue laugh machine here)
Yes, he's the fool who swore in as President an ineligible buffoon.
The only question remains, was he bought and paid for, threatened, or being blackmailed?
