There are more reasons than principle to speak out against the incumbent leader. In Flake’s case, it was probably partly out of personal ambition - he was hoping to displace Trump. Big mistake on his part.

I’m guessing that contract from MSNBC did not come completely through, he’s trying to gooch it a bit.
Likewise, it is difficult for Democratic Lawmakers to speak out against impeachment 'because they want to keep their jobs.'
Trump is s threat to the largest bipartisan project of the last 30 years, the fundamental transformation of this country into North Mexico.
He is securing the border and restoring the rule of law and that is unacceptable to Democrats and Bush League Republicans who are just one amnesty away from stealing our country from us.

You have the right to speak your mind, Jeff, but you don’t have the right to be insulated from the votes of your constituents.

I love when the media (and public figures) do this crap. Trump is THE most scrutinized president ever. He couldn’t J-walk without hysterics calls for impeachment.
What this is all really code for is your disagreement with the people, not with Trump.
In this particular context, Mr. Flake is more honest than 99.999% of our elected officials ON OUR SIDE OF THE ISLE...
