Pundits wrote off Sen. Bernie Sanders’s campaign back in October after his heart attack evoked the risks of nominating a candidate who would turn 80 during the first year of his presidency.
But since then, Sanders has made a remarkable comeback — and not just in terms of his health. Having climbed to second place nationally and raised a whopping $34.5 million in the fourth quarter, he now finds himself leading in New Hampshire and tied for first place in Iowa, according to the latest CBS/YouGov poll.
Perhaps Joe Biden, who enjoys much stronger support among black voters, is still in a better position to win the Democratic nomination. But Sanders’s candidacy is for real, and that means he must be taken seriously.
Were a major political party to nominate an avowed socialist as its candidate for the White House, it would be a monumental event in the nation’s history. Sanders is not merely an amusing old crank but rather an advocate for truly dangerous ideas that have caused great violence, suffering, and deprivation of freedom throughout the world. And although he has mostly stopped apologizing for communist tyrants, his policy recommendations evince the same lack of judgment he showed in the days when he did so routinely.

The media and Sanders supporters have painted a picture of a kindly old man interested in the public good. A political Santa Claus.
Sanders is an angry old commie with all that comes with that. Corrupt, vindictive, and dangerous.

I do not understand why the party allows him to run as a Democrat. He is not a party member just caucuses.
He controls a fraction of the dem voting base, and will hold it for ransom, just like in 2016. Hillary paid him off with a house and clearing his campaign debt ( I bet he cashed that check FAST). I expect him to do the same this time.

That's so highly unlikely, I don't worry about it. He's not Hitler, he's more huckster.
Bernie is dangerous, but he—like virtually every D candidate—is unelectable. D leadership knows it. Their main concern is probably winning enough Senate seats to halt DJT’s reformation of the courts which stops their agenda for decades. Keeping the house, too, enables endless investigations, but the Presidency is a foregone loss.
Bernie’s love for communism would be easily exposed, once all attention was focused on him. Ditto Warren’s lies. St. Pete’s homosexuality. Biden’s dementia. Each would grab a loyal 25% +/-, but little more.
Because he takes too many votes from them if he runs separately. Which, unless he is the Democrat nominee, his supporters will draft him to do this year.
