Mid-August sounds good or maybe after Labor Day.

Make the donkeys swear and sweat.

I agree. I don’t see any winners on either side with a lengthy trial.

Unfortunately the trial will proceed depending on how RINOs like Collins, Murkowski, Romney etc say it should proceed. That could mean limited witnesses that generally favor the dems (because these RINOs are usually gutless cowards). That said I don’t see a two month trial but who knows.

Either no witnesses or every witness in the phone book. No in between.

Mitch could have Saturday sessions to vote on judges.

The SOTU address on Feb. 4 will be must-watch tv.

It was a very good sign that in its official response letter, the White House formally characterized the impeachment as “....a partisan attempt to overturn the 2016 election...”

With this language, the White House is making a formal declaration that it considers this politically motivated impeachment to be just one part of a broader ongoing partisan attack against the President, that extends well beyond the issue of Ukraine quid pro quo.

The White House is putting the Senate on notice that this broader partisan attempt to overturn the 2016 election (read: deep state coup attempt) will be central to its defense case.

With that as a backdrop, it will be impossible for the Senate to refuse White House witness requests while allowing House Democrat witnesses requests on the basis of relevancy to the Ukrainian bribery allegations. That means the Senate will grant both sides their requests, or hear no witnesses from either side.

Note: The White House may not be quite ready to actually call this four year long conspiracy against President Trump a “deep state coup attempt”, but the language they used comes very, very close, and that is very, very good news.

If the Senate hears no witnesses (most likely) then it will mean a quick dismissal. A big win for the President. If both sides allowed to call witnesses (which I would prefer), perhaps some good will come from this impeachment travesty and the White House will use the forum to make their case, as outlined in the letter of response.

The White House defense team drafted that letter, but it does NOT sound at all defensive - they are making the case that President Trump has been framed.

Biden will lock up the nomination while the Senators are admiring Nanzi Pelosi’s souvenir pens and listening to hearsay “evidence”...

Bernie and Pocahontas are splitting the far, far left vote. The fast lane to the nominee is wide open for Biden if he wins Iowa, Nevada and South Carolina. He’s ahead in Iowa, the Dem machine will pull him over the line in NV and SC has a large black voting block favorable to Biden. After winning those races I expect obama will endorse and that would end the race.

It may be a farce but’s a fight to the death.

Trump and the GOP need to take off the gloves and get nasty.

Hear the witnesses. Just stick to only the House witnesses that have first hand knowledge and not REO Speedwagon “heard it from a fiend, who hear it from a fiend who...”

Each witness has to be voted on. Watch for Romney and his gang of 4 allow dem called witnesses but turn down Trump called witnesses. Romney still thinks he has a chance at president, if not in 2020 but in 2024.

It would be great if it interfered with the Dem primary debate schedule.

Warren, Biden, and Sanders, at least, will have to miss them if they are sitting for the impeachment trial.

I think these RINOs have a tendency to try and side with dems when they can. It is cowardice and a desire to appear fair and reasonable in the eyes of the MSM and their constituents who are often the source RINOs that put them in power.

Having said all that this is an rare impeachment and perhaps a few of the usual suspects will be more reasonable. We shall see.
