The Pentagon was asked by the Department of Homeland Security to fund the construction of about 270 miles of border wall in 2020 to counter drug smuggling across the U.S.-Mexico border, officials told reporters on Thursday.
The request came in on Wednesday and the Department of Defense (DOD) will ascertain how much will be allotted to Homeland Security, DOD officials told The Associated Press, Reuters, and other news outlets. They did not say how much it would cost, and an official told Reuters that it would take about two weeks to review the request.
So far, President Donald Trumps administration has constructed approximately 100 miles of his signature border wall, with much of it replacing existing fencing. He and other federal officials have promised to construct more than 400 miles along the border.

Somewhere an undersize Obama appointed district judge is being called out of a hot tub at a gay bath house to issue an injunction at his office.
With a $735,000,000,000 Annual Defense Budget, the cost of the Wall is Trump Change.

Exactly someone on the inside is screaming out for a whack-a-mole judge to block this.
Too bad we can’t build it around the House of Representatives, which is clearly enemy occupied territory.
“On January 15, 2020, the Department of Defense received a request from the Department of Homeland Security requesting DoD assistance in blocking up to 13 specific drug-smuggling corridors on Federal land along the southern border of the United States, Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Chris Mitchell told CNN Thursday.”
“All Federal Land” likely means not in Texas, unless it is Big Bend National Park.
If it is not Texas, it would be a whopping chunk of the other three Border States, who have a total of about 750 miles of Mexican Border, and already have hundreds of miles under construction.
Texas really needs at least a couple of hundred more miles (Falcon Lake to Box Canyon, through Laredo, Del Rio and Eagle Pass), or they will end up catching all the diverted flow.
It is possible that another request might be coming later.
Separate reporting indicates that the request covers six sectors - so at least one sector must be in Texas.
