Sen. Susan Collins hits back at 'mischaracterization and misunderstanding' of impeachment stance

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, released a statement on Thursday to clarify her stance on President Trump's upcoming impeachment trial and claimed her past comments have been taken out of context and misunderstood.

"There has been a lot of mischaracterization and misunderstanding about my position on the process the Senate should follow for the impeachment trial," the statement began. "Rather than have my position relayed through the interpretation of others, I wanted to state it directly."

Collins, who is considered a moderate, shared her views on how the process should play out and recommended that it mirror former President Bill Clinton's impeachment trial from 1999, to allow for bipartisan input.

At some point maybe she will get tired of being singled out as the weak target.

Hmmm...

I went to the linked article, but I did not see any "mischaracterization" or "misunderstanding" about Collin's position.

"While I need to hear the case argued and the questions answered, I tend to believe having additional information would be helpful," the statement read. "It is likely that I would support a motion to call witnesses at that point in the trial just as I did in 1999."

The Maine Republican claimed that she has not made a decision about which witnesses to call and is open to hearing from both parties, before forming a final conclusion.

I would have no issue with Collins posturing like this if she supported POTUS and the MAGA agenda. Sadly, she does not.

She’s painful, but I want her re-elected. We need to keep majority and that should be number 1 for 2020. If Colorado and a few other senators weren’t in trouble, I could see voting her out for overall senate. But we have no idea how some of these senate elections are going to go. Remember we thought we’d have 57 seats in 2018 and ended up with 53. Collins is going to be a tough win already due to rank voting.

The GOP senate is a hopeless bunch..they will cave to the democrats...

Unless the Turtle tells them vote this way or you get no money for your election.....

Well said! IMO without the opposition of “honorable opponents” conservatives relax their guard and suffer defeat at the hands of those liberals who want to destroy our nation.

Susanna, you lend credibility to the anti-American Rat impeachment farce by pushing for witnesses. Push for dismissal and thereby strengthen yourself, the GOP and Trump. . . this is not rocket science.

She is beyond hope. I have quit even worrying about her.

Our best move is to deluge Rob Portman with the pointed message that if he does not quit dinking around with this witness nonsense and vote to dismiss, we will ensure that his primary opponent has a campaign warchest that will shatter all Ohio records.

Sen. Susan Collins hits back at 'mischaracterization and misunderstanding' of impeachment stance

For a long time Collins, along with several other women in congress - Pelosi, Murkowski etc. have been examples of "bizarre logic and behavior" and are probably why women remain int the minority in congress and most likely why they weren't even allowed to vote until the early 20th Century.
