FBI Arrests Suspected White Supremacists Before Virginia Gun Rally
WSJ ^ | 1/16/2020 | Jon Kamp and Scott Calvert

Federal authorities arrested three men allegedly linked to a violent white-supremacist group who had discussed traveling to a pro-gun rally Monday in Richmond, Va., and preparing for a possible race war, according to a law-enforcement official.

Two of the men, one a former Canadian Army reservist in the U.S. illegally, face charges including transporting a firearm and ammunition with intent to commit a felony, according to the U.S. attorney’s office in Maryland. One was also charged with transporting a machine gun, and the third man was charged with transporting and harboring an illegal alien.

Online court records didn’t list attorneys for any of the men. They are scheduled to appear Thursday afternoon in federal court in Greenbelt, Md.

Virginia authorities are preparing for thousands of people to attend a pro-gun rally Monday at the state Capitol. On Wednesday, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam temporarily banned firearms from the Capitol grounds, citing law-enforcement concerns about weaponized drones and armed militias.

Rally organizers are responding to gun-control bills Democratic lawmakers have aimed to pass since they won control after November elections over both chambers of the state Legislature. Several bills have cleared committees since lawmakers convened last week, including one to expand background checks for gun purchases and a red-flag measure to disarm people deemed dangerous.

The three men arrested Thursday are members of white supremacist group “the Base,” authorities said. Members in encrypted chat rooms have discussed topics like creating a “white entho-state,” ways to make improvised-explosive devices and violence against African-Americans and Jewish Americans, a Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent said in an affidavit filed in court.

White supremacist groups like the Base also discuss “accelerationism,” a concept that refers to a desire to speed up the collapse of modern society, according to the Anti-Defamation League...

So this has been going on for months and you stated you’ve been following this a long time. Lemme ask you, do you find it a bit inquisitive that suddenly right before this protest this agency suddenly makes big media headlines associating and linking white supremacist, racist and really bad people directly to this rally?

Patrik Jordan Mathews came over from Canada in late August. Law enforcement circles have been following it since then because he is a known neo-Nazi and an all-around bad guy. These are plenty of news articles about it, you just have to look for them since they come from smaller sources.

Well, no, I don’t find it odd because the rally is happening Monday and these guys are in the area. Mathews is from Manitoba and crossed into Minnesota. I believe the feds have been tracking him since then and have been waiting for him to commit bad acts. Transporting a full-auto rifle across state lines and planning on disrupting this rally counts, I think.

See posts 63 and 64. Google Mathews. Been in the smaller news outlets for a few months. Bad dude. Was planning to commit violence against Americans. String him up.

I’m no fan of the FBI, but you cannot take the actions of some and project them on thousands of other employees. This is a solid case.

I wasn't referring to "Some" people as your referred to them, but the top officials, supervisors and directors of that agency. And in fact there were multiple reports going back a year or two which reported there were many agents of that agency that were going to, or wanted to come forward and testify to wrong doings committed by that agency.

What happened to all those in the rank and file agents who wanted to come forward and blow their whistles?

said, "These guys are legit neo-Nazis... They literally broke the very laws FReepers call on for more enforcement."

It's real simple. What integrity does the FBI have? They're still to this day holding information that the courts has asked for.

There are extreme leftist neo-Nazi around. Which are self proclaimed socialists rooted from Marx. Though the FBI still call these Marxist based socialists "right wing"

What I don't understand is how someone can read anything from the FBI and believe it's a legitimate arrest.

You can google Patrik Jordan Mathews and find articles back to August about him. Here's one.

“Sometimes this site makes no sense. Sometimes it’s pro law enforcement, sometimes it’s Antifa-like in its disdain for cops.”

I’d say the average comments are more reflective of being very skeptical of any story being put forth trying to promote the idea that “white supremacists”, “Nazis”, and “firearms enthusiasts” are the chief characteristics of the vast majority of Trump supporters.

I’ll agree with you that there sometimes seems to be a plethora of posters with an anti-cop attitude, but I think the FBI has demonstrated it has it’s own ethics problems.

So all these suspects were arrested at or near the rally venue?

From what I’ve read, the events took place in MD, VA, and DE. A few hours drive from the rally scheduled to take place Monday.
