Whoever advised Trump not to fire every last one of these Obuma holdovers should be fired immediately.

Obummer changed 8000 of his Democrat political appointees into high level civil service employees. They are no longer just fireable, you have to go through the entire civil service discharge procedures for cause.

The GAO is an “independent, non-partisan” agency.

Entirely staffed by partisan Democrats. . .

Didn’t Congress also stipulate that the executive should certify that progress had been made on cleaning up corruption prior to releasing funds??

They did indeed. The Department of Defense spent almost 8 months just certifying that the Ukraine military had done “something” about corruption in the military procurement procedures, but in late April, the Ukrainians had elected a new President, Zelensky, who had run on an anti-Corruption platform. By July, however, he had done essentially nothing to implement that anti-corruption platform.

President Trump was skeptical that Zelensky was what he had said he was, and perhaps he was just another corrupt kleptocracy thug, intending to replace the previous kleptocracy thugs with more of the same, just with him in charge, and so Trump placed a hold on the aid.

However, what Trump did not know was that Zelensky was waiting for the Ukrainian parliamentary election which occurred in mid July, where his party won an overwhelming majority. Once that occurred he had the power to start replacing corrupt assholes with his people. When Trump got factual reports in early September from VP Pence and Senator Johnson that it actually WAS happening, he lifted the aid hold.

Thanks for the details—I couldn’t remember them. How does the aid compare with what Obama did? Didn’t Obama also with hold some aid?

I don’t know if there were any absolute denials or holds, but he did make sure there was no lethal aid. His administration only provided MREs, blankets, some dilapidated surplus Hummers and troop carriers, and from what I hear, some non-operational radar fire directors.

Thanks. That helps clarify some statements I had heard in passing on the news.

The only hard deadline is EOY, which was achieved (with Congress’ approval for an extension).

The extension exonerated Trump’s delaying action. So Congress didn’t sue for compliance as allowed, and then exonerated President Trump’s delay with the extension.

Why isn’t that double jeopardy, being accused of the same crime after being exonerated by Congress itself?

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is under the control of the House. Say no more!
