Despite the expansion of gun sanctuaries to a record 130 Virginia towns and counties Wednesday, covering most of the state, foes of gun control legislation speeding through Richmond are raising new fears they will be forced to register weapons, a move that could lead to confiscation.
Second Amendment lobbyists and advocates reviewing the initial gun control moves by a state Senate committee credit the exploding sanctuary movement for forcing Democrats to accept some compromises, including a less strict universal background check and delay in introducing a ban on assault weapons.
But they are concerned that even watered down gun control legislation will eventually lead to broader restrictions and bans.
Berryville just became sanctuary #130!
Phil Van Cleave VCDL (@VCDL_ORG) January 15, 2020 Theres no doubt that the sanctuary movement has the Democrats concerned. Just too soon to know where things are going, said Philip Van Cleave, who runs the grassroots advocacy group Virginia Citizens Defense League.
We are very glad to hear that the sanctuary efforts are sending a big signal. But we were very disappointed to see what passed out of committee on Monday, said Erich Pratt, senior vice president of Gun Owners of America,
The sanctuary movement collected its 130th endorsement on Tuesday. It reaches nearly every suburban and rural area of the state.
Gun advocates are planning to flood the state capital on Monday, traditionally citizen lobbying day. They are eager to turn back bills OKd so far, though Democrats have said they plan to stand firm, claiming that gun control promises helped them take control of the legislature in the 2019 elections.
The National Rifle Association conducted its lobbying day Monday when the Senate Judiciary Committee approved several new restrictions including a universal background check, a limit on handgun purchases, and other regulations alien

BUT, if there were a law requiring registry, there would be little or no compliance while the challenges proceeded through the courts.
If the USSC were to support registry, there would be massive non-compliance.
It’s past time to start filling out, and sharing, little black books with info that will be valuable in the future. Some places have been busy doing that for a few years.
Here we go folks- Virginia governor declares state of emergency ahead of gun rally
RICHMOND, Va. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Wednesday that he was declaring a state of emergency over threats of armed militia groups storming our Capitol ahead of a gun-rights rally next week.
Northams emergency order will ban weapons of all kinds, including firearms, from the Capitol grounds starting Friday and continuing through Tuesday.

It is beginning- the left in Virginia likely are going to declare a state of emergency after this meeting as well, declaring that there is such an urgent need to ban firearms that he must act now to save lives
The handwriting is on the wall
The Gov should be removed from office for being delusional an d paranoid AND for succumbing to his paranoia resulting in violating people’s constitutional rights
Never fear! The data which the govt. collects on gun-owners will be stored on a hacker-proof server - in China.

Of course the OBVIOUS solution would have been for conservatives to vote for ANYONE with an “R” by their name, including RINOs, rather than trying to ‘teach the Republican Party a lesson’ by sitting out last November’s election.
...and the funny thing is - has the Republican Party been ‘cleansed’ by giving total power to the Democrats? Or is it like California, where the Republicans now fight for the tranny vote and treat the Deplorables worse than Obama treated them.
So, tell me, how does one vote for the R by the name when the GOP in Virginia failed to run candidates in almost 25% of races. Then there was the redistricting done by a professor in California, overwhelming blue in Northern VA, Richmond and now Tidewater.
“So, tell me, how does one vote for the R by the name when the GOP in Virginia failed to run candidates in almost 25% of races.”
It’s not the GOP ‘running’ candidates, it’s potential candidates that deciding that a district is deep blue, so they don’t waste their time and money on it. If a person running as a Republican has an actual chance of winning, there WILL be a GOP candidate on the ballot - the party cannot stop that from happening. That would be the other 75% of the races.
While I can’t help the redistricting, I have had arguments here with people claiming the Republican Party sucks and there is ‘no difference’ between the parties, and therefore they’re not going to vote. Hopefully those people are learning something now.
The tree of Liberty needs watering from time to time. Old lessons have been forgotten.
