Thats what it really was about. They knew an actual impeachment wouldnt stick. So theyre just happy to tarnish his legacy with an impeached label. The fact that he committed no crime is immaterial to them. They were happy to abuse the power of the congress to impeach for their politically partisan purposes and impeach an innocent man. See, to Democrats, politics is a blood sport and as a result, there is no limit to what level they’ll sink to. Including abusing the purposes of the congress.
That aside, as much as Pelosi wish it were so, this impeachment wont go down in history as a black mark on Trumps historical record. It’ll go down in history as a self inflicted black eye on the democratic party. A hundred years from now, people, kids in history class, anyone, arent going to say something along the lines of,
“Trump? Oh, yeah. That President that got impeached because he broke the law or did something bad.”
Instead, theyre going to say,
“Trump? Oh, yeah. That President who was wrongfully impeached because of a politically partisan, crooked congress”
People will look upon this impeachment almost the same way they look at the assassination of Lincoln (if they dont already). Bet on it.
