I have an M9 and an M17. The M17 is better. The M9 was no slouch, but the triggers are worlds different. The M17 trigger is far superior to the M9. The M9 was very reliable but the M17 is ridiculously reliable. The M17 allows a 21 round magazine that’s very nice to have.
I think the M17 is a good improvement over the M9.
Wow, Sig was able to make a better pistol than Beretta designed in 1972...... they should really pat themselves on the back....
Changing from DA to SA and be able to control shot placement took more training than a pistol should take, especially since a pistol is a secondary weapon designed to help you get to the battle rifle. The Beretta was a poor choice.
The SIG is a departure from the one-size-fits-all to a true modular system that can be modified for the mission. Optic, lights, lasers, suppressors, all can be fitted to the basic frame and slide assembly and not change the operations one iota except in capability.
While I prefer a 1911(and carry one every day), I am envious of the M17/M18 platform and it's versatility.
Glock was upset it was not chosen, but it did not, and does not offer any of the configureability the SIG does.
My cousin serves in Nokor near the DMZ. He mentioned MOST of the MP’s are either black or above 6’2” to stare down the commie guards and when there is a meeting between the 2 near the border, they make sure they look DOWN at them when standing in front..
And now it’s time for some Sig Sauer M17/M18 gun porn: https://www.sigsauer.com/products/firearms/pistols/m17-m18/
things to do and see in Oberdachstetten:

When it comes to firearms “newer” does not mean “better”. The most important factor in a combat pistol is its reliability under adverse conditions. The old Berettas were less reliable than the competing entries back in the 70s. But it was chosen for political reasons IICR. It’s about time it got replaced. I just hope the new one is actually better.
