The Senate is poised to launch into an impeachment trial for President Trump as early as next Tuesday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said, as warring factions on Capitol Hill ended an impasse that had left the entire process in limbo for nearly four weeks.

At one point President Trump was calling for his own witnesses, now he is not and it could be that as the political calculus changes with the shifting political winds that he may once again call for them.

My beef has nothing to do with either position but with the obnoxious posting behavior and trollish behavior of some of the posters on the thread.

Partner, Mitch McConJob should have quit as Senate Majority Leader a long time ago.

He is already worth $30 Million and this job is his only real job.

We already heard that Mike Lee, Mitten Romney, Lisa Murkowski, Collins and Rand Paul wanted the Impeachment trial to come to the floor of the Senate.

The House Democrats do not have any say so of who or what they will discuss and yes we want to see Pelousy testify, Hunter Biden testify, Romney testifies if he made big $$$ off of Ukraine.

BTW, President Trump will be acquitted quickly.

I have said from Day One that all the talk about witnesses is mainly just posturing by both sides -- because the Democrats sure as hell don't even want to see many of the witnesses they themselves interviewed in their House charade testifying before the Senate.

Adam Schiff has refused to release entire transcripts of the hearings he held behind closed doors. Those almost certainly contain testimony that completely undermines his case.

Just not yet. :-)

You’ve got it exactly backwards. We’ve had months of mindless sunshine pumping as the do-nothing GOP Senate hid under their desks while the CIA backed House Dem/hoaxblower plot assaulted POTUS and his supporters.

Now that the impeachment chickens are coming home to roost some pumpers would rather attack those stating the facts at hand than admit they were wrong to support the useless GOP Senate.

I’m not interested in trading personal insults here. The GOP needs to be held accountable because they have proven over the past 3 years they will do the absolute minimum in support of POTUS.

Partner, your beef is justified and there are many trolls on this blog since we are the only good political public blog that will tell us what is going on with a particular political subject or a national issue.

We Freepers know this is a real sham trial and the trial will put the DemonRatSocialist party in real panic situation since they hate President Trump for beating out that sick woman Miss Hillary.

We already know that the House conducted a Sham trial and all of America watched that display of hatred by the DemonRatSocialist party and "We the People" got to see this display of hatred towards President Trump.

"We the People" are coming out to vote on Nov. 3rd, 2020 for President Trump.

You have been posting that same sh!t for months, and yet you still haven’t explained what exactly the “GOP controlled Senate” was supposed to do while a House proceeding that had no Senate involvement was going on.

As a historian I am sure you aware there was a dual House/Senate process during Watergate. The GOP hasn’t bothered to hold a single hearing on a CIA backed coup raging in a GOP White House. How on earth can you not be troubled by that?

Then of course there is the GOP Senate scuttling the obviously outstanding Ratcliffe for DNI. I believe it was 12 GOP Senators voted for Brennan even though it was revealed he voted for a communist for POTUS! Yet the GOP Senate says a GOP POTUS is not entitled to his own trusted DNI while under coupist assault from the IC? Outrageous.

I could go on but you should get the point.

In other words, NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE McCONNELL FIRST MADE HIS SPEECH ON THE SENATE FLOOR THE DAY AFTER THE HOUSE VOTED ON THE TWO ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT.

LOL. You are being willfully blind. The Dems get their witnesses trial balloons were flying all over today. Launched by no less than our favorite Cubanadian among others. And McConnell punted until next week. The tough talk is gone. Most likely McConnell has cooked up some cute Senate impeachment maneuver like the Corker Iran bill and he will spring it on us next week. I wish I was cheering McConnell on this but it is what it is. He chose this path.

“The GOP hasn’t bothered to hold a single hearing on a CIA backed coupa”

Several times Graham has been all blustery about how he’s going to call in people to testify, hold hearings, etc. Then he’d walk away and there was silence.

Don’t plan on that for Trump.
Lots of live witnesses and 24 / 7 tv trashing .
Lott had control and didn’t want it.
Mitch is useless outside his work for his Globalist buddies including China . He wants to take Trump down .

Exactly. McConnell fancies himself the ultimate parliamentarian. Recall all the nonsense associated with the Corker Iran bill? Most likely McConnell has cooked up something to shield the Senate from tough votes/scrutiny. Perhaps an expanded role for CJ Roberts? Roberts could be ruling on admissibility of witnesses, evidence, etc. instead of the full senate. Wouldn’t that be lovely?

But obviously McConnell doesn’t want to let that back stab out of the bag just yet. He’ll hold that until the process is too far gone to stop it. I hope I’m wrong but the way McConnell punted today was not good at all. The tough talk is gone.

Nice post.

Minor pick:

You have been here this long and you say this,

"People need to stop judging every political event through a simple-minded lens, and sometimes looking through this lens in kind of a dumb way of how it affects TRUMP!"

Would not be political opinionating and pontificating if people stopped to think before posting!

(myself included)

And the CIA is still filled with "coup" plotters even though President Trump is supposed to be the one in charge of his own administration. Why are you asking the Senate to defend President Trump when he is apparently quite comfortable with an administration filled with people looking to undermine him?

As a historian I am sure you aware there was a dual House/Senate process during Watergate.

The Democrats controlled both houses of Congress in 1974, and both processes were aimed at undermining Nixon.

I'm not sure I understand your point.

That’s a great question for DNI Ratcliffe. Oh, wait, he’s not DNI. Why is that?

It’s should be obvious to an astute observer like you that President Trump is in command of very little of the executive branch.

President Trump is perfectly capable of firing people and letting their posts get filled on an interim basis.

The biggest signal to me was that Rod Rosenstein lasted as long as he did. President Trump didn't even have to fire Rosenstein if he wanted to get rid of him. The Deputy U.S. Attorney General post was never even legislated into existence by Congress in the first place. It was established through an internal DOJ memorandum back in the 1950s, and Trump could have dumped Rosenstein simply by issuing an executive order to eliminate the Deputy AG position entirely.

He didn't.

He seems to have made it through all of that very well.

Are you suggesting that even Private Vindman couldn’t be re-assigned somewhere by the White House? His position doesn’t require Senate confirmation.
