Attorney General William P. Barr declared on Monday that a deadly shooting last month at a naval air station in Pensacola, Fla., was an act of terrorism, and he asked Apple in an unusually high-profile request to provide access to two phones used by the gunman.
Mr. Barrs appeal was an escalation of a continuing fight between the Justice Department and Apple pitting personal privacy against public safety.
This situation perfectly illustrates why it is critical that the public be able to get access to digital evidence, Mr. Barr said, calling on technology companies to find a solution and complaining that Apple had provided no substantive assistance.

They make the MOST profit on that product.
That’s why they offer it.
Same for other companies.
Of course it is of no extra worth to the customer since the user will give the code to any criminal upon torture of them or their loved ones.
And to the government upon imprisonment for contempt.
But more profit!!!
No....
A few low ranking Epstein pals nobody ever heard of. Not the kingpins, and nobody in the coup. And that’s might big of him to do something in the Epstein case considering Barr’s dad gove Epstein his FIRST teaching job. Ain’t that a coinkydink?
By the way, you -are- aware that apple cannot open someone’s device aren’t you? If they had such a backdoor, it would be no security at all.
The government has the phone, all the phone records, and the right to break into the phone, but they do not have the right to force apple to create a team to figure out how to break into it.
If they have a warrant to search your safe, they can brink blowtorches, saws, Vinnie the safecracker, etc. But they cannot call Liberty and force them to come to your house and figure out how to open it.
BS
Not only does Apple have the ability, so does NSA. And anyone else with supercompute capability.
Well then, the USofA Givernment can unlock the phone themselves...
Earlier today DOJ said they are sending 17 others back to Saudi Arabia. So what’s the point of searching his phone is all they’ll do is put them on a plane home? That seems to make zero sense.
For less profit the ‘tech’ companies could offer products amenable to Common Law.
But thanks to idiots they don’t have to.
They just have to look at their profits to decide what the law should be and idiots will support them.
I don’t support turning over the lessons of millenia just so companies can make an extra buck.
But I know I’m on the losing side here LOL!
‘Tech’ companies literally own the public square LOL!
Careful, your critical thinking skills are showing.
All of their iPhones were smashed with a hammer. Hillary swung a big hammer.
sounds like another perfect storm of screwups.
Forget it Bill, Apple is not going to infringe upon the rights of terrorists.
Yeah, but being a foreign national who attacked us vs. a US citizen, I think they should help out, we don’t protect enemies rights like we would for a citizen.
Offer products that guarantee the government can access them? That’s not common law. The government has a right to search, not to succeed. And storage makers are under no legal obligation to ensure the DOJ can always break in.
You must think if we bury treasure that we have to make sure to leave a map somewhere the Government can always access it if they “need” to. LOL
That was just Hillary’s. The other still have theirs. And there have been no 5am raids at their houses to grab them.
Barr is playing us.
Pay a 17 year old kid $100. It would be unlocked in 10 minutes.
Barr is shaping up to be Jeff Sessions II. Apple has made its position clear in the past. Public grovelling won’t change that.
So Silly.
You have no understanding of the issues t you’re addressing.
Spend some time educating yourself when you’re bored.
Instead of spreading idiocy.
Oh yes, and feeling good LOL!
Apple offers a product that they do not hold the ability to unlock because the user alone knows how to unlock it.

Right. Then Im sure NSA will be right on it. /sarc
Yes, the US government is only trying to protect you from terrorists. That’s why Bust and Obama each admit to letting in about 800,000 moslems each. That’s why they let over a dozen terrorists into Navy flight school. That’s why they promoted Major hassan when they knew he was corresponding with Anwar al alaki. That’s why they blew off the Russian warning they gave about the Boston bombers. That’s why they let MS13 roam the streets and let in 2500 Mexicans Salvadorans and Guatemalans per day. That’s why they brought in the skinnies from Blackhawk down Mogadishu, and impossible to vet Syrians.
All to protect us from terrorists.
And they *really* need to be able to look into everyone’s Iphones. Trust them, it’s to protect you from terrorists.
They make the MOST profit on that product.
Thats why they offer it.
I think people prefer privacy to having their info sold and vulnerable.
I gladly pay for that, just like we paid for our curtains...
