South Florida Sun-Sentinel ^ | Jan, 13, 2020 | ANTHONY MAN

The steady flow of people moving to Florida helps keep the roads clogged with traffic and housing prices high. But the 640 newcomers every day for the last 10 years are bringing something that will benefit every Floridian: increased political clout.

The latest analysis of population trends shows Florida is likely to gain two seats in Congress and two more votes in the Electoral College that decides the presidency.

That is always a concern: people fleeing their blue home states yet bringing their voting beliefs with them to purple or red locales.

Many of the western states at one time welcomed this idea. Being flooded with leftist Californians now, however, I’m sure they think otherwise.

The same with the yankees flooding into Florida. I would think its getting harder and harder for the panhandle and northern Florida to offset the effect of left voting Florida south of Ocala.

Strictly anecdotal, but the considerable number of persons of my acquaintance, who have moved to Florida within the last year, are definitely MAGA folks.

You know those lights were bright on Broadway
That was so many years ago
Before we all lived here in Florida
Before the Mafia took over Mexico
There are not many who remember
They say a handful still survive
To tell the world about
The way the lights went out
And keep the memory alive

Billy Joel - Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway)

That’s encouraging. Surely we don’t need Schumer and Nadler types.

Many of the new residents are Republican and conservative.

A lot of retirees in the Panhandle are military. Conservative and fit right in with the locals.

GA has gained 1.1 million popuation. Unlike FL which seems to attract more Republicans, Most GA immigrants seem to be tribal Democrats from Rust Belt Cities. Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, Columbus, Cincinati and then from PA, then from Buffalo-Roschester, then from Flint-Detrit.

These tribal Democrats are not ideological. They are generally mixed on the issues; but don’t vote on the issues. They vote on who seems friendly and their friend. GA Republicans could win them over if they recognized their existence and were friendly.

But the Republicans ignore these new voters. Nobody is asking them why there are no jobs in Democrat Rust Belt cities and plenty of jobs in Red States. (These job seekers know that there are plenty of jobs in FL and TX. They had job offers from many red states.)

Voters don’t like to be ignored. They have no reason to change parties, which they are ripe to do if not ignored.

One problem...

Most of the people moving to Florida come from New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, etc.

I moved to East Texas 15 years ago, my rural community has been growing by leaps and bounds. Sure many are Hispanics and probably a lot are illegals but a lot of the growth is anglo too. We have new schools built every year due to the influx. I’m not sure democrats even run anywhere outside the minority towns around.

As long as they don’t bring their liberal politics with them, which many are trying to escape, welcome!

That is the BIG question, will folks moving from communist blue states to republic/conservative red ones, bring their communist/socialist big spending and pro-big government voting patterns with them?
