The House of Representatives on Thursday voted in favor of a War Powers Resolution meant to limit President Trumps military action toward Iran following an escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The resolution passed, 224-194, mostly along party lines, but both parties had some defectors: eight Democrats voted against the measure and three Republicans voted in favor of it. Independent Rep. Justin Amash, who left the Republican Party last year, also voted in favor of the measure.
"We deserve the respect from the administration and that Congress deserves under the Constitution, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said on the House floor. The Constitution of the United States calls that there be cooperation when initiating hostilities.
The resolution is non-binding but is meant to reassert congressional authority and rebuke Trumps decision to take out Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike last Friday while he traveled to an airport in Baghdad, Iraq. Trump did not consult with congressional leaders ahead of the attack that killed the Iranian military leader and afterward sent Congress a notification explaining the rationale but kept it classified.
The resolution requires the president to consult with Congress 'in every possible instance' before introducing United States Armed Forces into hostilities."

MATT GAETZ IS AN IDIOT on this!! AN IDIOT! What is he, GAY??
I know EXACTLY how you feel.
I broke with my Congresscritter, Alex Mooney (R, WV-2) over his vote in favor of the Harris Amendment to the Anti-Lynching bill....wholebunchalotta GOP Alpha Hotels were with him on that POS giving sharia a foot hold.
If Congress was actually doing its job, aka declaring war per their constitutional responsibility, there would have never been a War Powers Act. An act, BTW that grants the executive the authority to commit military forces in hostilities for up to 60 days WITHOUT the consent of congress and follow up with them on the details within 48 hours after committing forces.
So, the congress can go pound sand.
Nancy Pelosi should take that resolution and use the giant gavel to stuff it up her ass.
“We deserve the respect from the administration and that Congress deserves under the Constitution, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif
.
You deserve to be hanged higher than Haman Nancy. Nothing more, nothing less.
I’m tired of our party members backstabbing us and the president constantly !! Sick of it!!
The Democrats oppose the President. Not exactly a revelation. I guess they do this kind of thing to please their few constituents who can speak and read English.
Iran is loving this..way to go demoncrats...side with those that want to crush us
Traitors!
I agree with your take on it.
and no wife....
Philosophically, I agree with constraining a POTUS from unilateral war making.
If this resolution was not specifically directed at Trump and Iran I would support it wholeheartedly.
Alas, Democrats and some Republicans only seek to undermine the strength and resolve of the nation while under direct threat. And to undermine the CinC while hostilities are afoot.
And I call them traitors to the American people over it.
Which means precisely dick.
Yet they were fine with hussein’s activities.
It was bound to come to this.
Even rabid animals can’t hide their vicious ways 24 hours a day.
Lame. He’s siding with the Dems at a time when President Trump needs to be solidly supported; Mike Lee, I’m even more surprised at. Grandstanding pols are in it for themselves. . .
If Trump needs approval fast how many House reps need to give approval? is it just a few top players or a committee?
I have a feeling future terminations won’t go good ie. the muslims will be tipped off.
Except in the fake news media...
They are just going back to pre 2003. I mean President Reagan had no issue with this.
