Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told Republicans during a closed-door lunch on Thursday to expect President Trumps impeachment trial to start next week.
Three GOP senators said the Republican leader warned lawmakers during the caucus meeting that they should not expect to be able to go home next weekend, indicating that the long-delayed trial will be underway.
Proceedings have been held up while Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has refused to send over the House-passed articles of impeachment, but she told reporters earlier Thursday that she would soon do so.
"We thought, we as the body, that the Speaker will ... shortly send that over, so [he] said next weekend don't go anywhere," said Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), characterizing McConnell's message as a heads-up that the Senate would be in session.
Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) added that McConnell told senators that the two articles would be sent over "soon," expecting them in the "next day or two."
"There's no reason for us to stay this weekend, but don't expect to be home next weekend was the basic message," Cramer added after the closed-door caucus lunch.
SNIP
AND...do not expect to see any of your democratic colleagues
Ill believe it when I see it.
What impeachment?
It looks like SloJo will be on the campaign trail all by himself for awhile.
It will be pandermoanium.
if there is talk about working the weekend, that there tells me their gonna waste our time time and money as well...
So the trial will likely be underway during the time of the big 2A demonstration in Richmond, Virginia. What might the Left do to cause maximum confrontation and blame it on President Trump?
Well have to see if the Democrats stop holding impeachment hostage. Time will tell.
I just don’t trust em. This is the very last step in removing Trump. Anything is possible, as evidenced by us even being here in the first place.
“McConnell tells GOP senators to expect impeachment trial next week”
On this forum Mitch has often been criticized in the extreme.
Mitch is a “low key person” and does not wish to be in the lime light of public scrutiny and this is wise. Due to his leadership in the Senate we have had many conservatives judges confirmed.
Mitch is wise. He will be gone in a few years. His legacy of confirming good judges will live beyond his time on this earth.
He was wise and did good.
Dem grandstanding will be off the charts, along with the usual spineless RINO suspects Romney, Collins, Murkowski.
If Nancy Pelosi continues to refuse to hand over the documents, perhaps the Senate could dismiss the case on the basis of “laches,” a legal term that refers to lack of diligence or an unreasonable delay in prosecuting a case.
President Trump is not going to be removed from office, at least not by this senate.
Peelousy isn’t negotiating Trump’s removal, she knows that is never going to happen, she is negotiating the scope of the trial to keep hands off of the Biden’s and their Ukraine Quid Pro Quo, he is their only viable candidate at this point. Sad but true
The Democrats marched into this box canyon with their eyes wide open. Mitch is under no obligation to do anything they want him to do. Everybody knows this impeachment is a joke. Mitch’s job is to handle the trial in the manner that most helps the President and does the most damage possible to the Democrats. I believe he is up to the task.
What happened to ‘peach fohdie fibe? Low IQ maxine will be saddened
Perhaps they could charge her with “Obstruction of Congress” (same impechment charge against Trump). Symbolic of course. ..
God will send a historical snow storm.
I dont think there will be much grandstanding in the Senate chambers. This isnt like an open hearing for a nominee. The Senators do not interrogate anyone and may not even be permitted to speak at all.
