'When I'm ready': Pelosi won't budge on sending impeachment articles to Senate, despite calls from Democrats

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Thursday that she will send the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate "when I'm ready," rebuffing calls from top Democrats to submit them.

“No, I’m not holding them indefinitely," Pelosi told reporters during a press conference at the Capitol. "I will turn them over when I’m ready, and that will probably be soon.”

Some Democrats in the House and Senate have joined Republicans in recent days in saying it's time for Pelosi to send the articles to the Senate.

After initially saying in an interview Thursday morning that he thought Pelosi should submit the articles, Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., backtracked, tweeting that he "misspoke."

Pelosi has withheld the articles since her chamber adopted them last month, saying she will not transmit them to the Senate until the trial process is explicitly laid out. But she has suggested she could submit them soon.

"Nonetheless, at some point, we would hope that we would see from them what the terms of engagement will be," Pelosi told reporters Thursday. "We are ready, we are proud of our defense of the Constitution of the United States."

In a letter to colleagues Tuesday, Pelosi said it was important that McConnell "immediately publish this resolution, so that, as I have said before, we can see the arena in which we will be participating, appoint managers and transmit the articles to the Senate."

No trial can begin until the articles are sent.

Yes. I don’t see a good way for Nancy to save face on this deal. She’s got herself pretty well boxed in.

(chuckle....)

The arm twisting in the Senate isn’t working.
They are down to two at max.

“”McConnell “immediately publish this resolution””

What in the devil is she talking about - what resolution and who is she to demand that McConnell IMMEDIATELY do anything?

Pelosi is a senile old harpy. I suspect she doesn’t have a good grasp on reality anymore.

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., joined fellow Republicans Monday to introduce a resolution allowing the chamber to dismiss articles of impeachment against President Trump for lack of prosecution, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delays sending the case for trial.

I didn't find info that this resolution was voted on and passed.

From that link:

‘A majority of the Senate has decided that the first phase of an impeachment trial should track closely with the unanimous bipartisan precedent that all 100 senators supported for the first phase of the Clinton trial back in 1999.

‘There will be no haggling with the House over Senate procedure. We will not cede our authority to try this impeachment. The House Democrats’ turn is over. The Senate has made its decision.

‘The 1999 precedent does not guarantee witnesses or foreclose witnesses. Let me say that again: it neither guarantees witnesses nor forecloses witnesses. It leaves those determinations until later in the trial where they belong.

‘I fully expect the parties will raise questions about witnesses at the appropriate time. I would remind my friends on the other side: I strongly suspect that not all the potential witnesses would be people the Democrats are eager to hear from.

‘So the Senate will address all these questions at the appropriate time. That is for the Senate, and the Senate only, to decide. Period.”

‘A majority of the Senate has decided that the first phase of an impeachment trial”

Was this part actually voted On? I heard that was the intent but has there been an actual vote?

She couldn't use the more common "good and ready" because everyone knows she isn't good, never has been, and never will be.

I am not sure. I doubt it is an official vote, but that McConnel has assurance of the vote.

2 things are in play. Containment of the extent of exposing everyone involved in the Coup. Some are GOP.

Then the issue of damaging the office of the President.

I don’t believe what I think needs to happen will take place. Unfortunately.

I want to Expose em all. No matter who they are. And punish them according to their real crimes.

Politics of “they are all guilty” of using their office for gain, will prevent what needs to happen.

My cellphone just flashed Bloomberg asked Congress to investigate Barr to see if he is too close to Trump. Imagine that.

I hope these freaks get put in their place.

If some don’t go to jail, it will contilnue.
