A poisonous spider bite in the hill country has turned into a lengthy legal battle between two men. The case has now made it all the way to the Texas Supreme Court.
The drama began in December 2014, when Henry McCall, a caretaker on an Airbnb property in Fredericksburg was bit by a brown recluse spider...
McCall filed a lawsuit against the property owner Homer Hillis, who claimed he should be liable for his suffering since he didn’t warn him of the possible danger at the property.
Homer Hillis is taking the case to the Texas Supreme Court. He argues being held liable would overturn a legal doctrine, ferae naturae, which does not require landowners to inform guests of property conditions, like the presence of poisonous spiders.
I read someplace that you are never more than five feet from a spider at any point during your daily activities.
This lawsuit is ridiculous.
“If you put up a sign that says “Spider Free Zone”, would all the spiders stay away?”

If the man was raising them you would have a point. As they are a naturally occurring pest common to the area you have no more claim then you would if you got malaria from a mosquito bite.

Ohio had a SC ruling that said rain, ice, and snow are known hazards so property owners are not liable for slippery conditions and do not have a burden of care to warn people about them.

I was bitten by a Brown Recluse spider 22 years ago on this inside of my thigh.
It hurt at the time, but I thought it was no big deal until the next day when there were giant red/brown/black lines running from the bite to the tip of my toes and up my chest.
They put me on a drip antibiotic; almost died of sepsis.
Still a nasty scar.

My wife’s oldest brother was bitten my a brown recluse spider several years ago while cleaning his Arkansas garage.
At first, he didn’t think much about it. A few days later he noticed the bite area was getting really ugly, so he visited his doctor.
He was put into the hospital where he stayed for several weeks. It took the medical staff that long to counter the effect of the venom/poison. He was told he could have died if he had waited much longer than he did.
Today he is back on his feet, though he did have a relapse last year from the bite.
I think he’s done cleaning the garage.

How horrible! I know a man who was probably bitten; there was no real way to be certain, but the Doc thought that was the issue. He recovered with minimal treatment.

Reading the facts, it appears the owner knew of the spider infestation inside the house and didn’t warn the guy.
It’s Texas.
Brown Recluse spiders live there.

What does “You mean bitten??” mean? Did the double question marks turn your statement into a question? Perhaps you meant to actually form a question such as; “Did you mean to say bitten?”
But it matters not since “bit” is acceptable usage in this instance.

Raccoons, opossums, coyotes, bobcats and snakes call this area home, as do you. Generally, they are only trying to survive in an ever-changing environment. You can take steps in your yard and home to deter visits from these animals...
