HIV patients lose immunity to smallpox even though they were vaccinated against the disease as children and have had much of their immune system restored with antiretroviral therapy, according to a study published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.
Called HIV-associated immune amnesia, the finding could explain why people living with HIV still tend to have shorter lives on average than their HIV-negative counterparts despite being on antiretroviral therapy. The study follows other research recently published in the journals Science and Science Immunology that found the immune systems of children who contracted measles similarly "forgot" their immunity against other illnesses such as influenza.

If only back when the disease first became a thing wed quarantined people with HIV rather than let the poofters and Left wrap it up in civil rights...
A second round of immunizations. More guaranteed sales.

If smallpox immunity is lost, you can guarantee that the same is true of many other diseases.

This could be bad!
Makes sense. Drugs that diminish the immune system expose the person to other risks including cancer. Not certain if the HIV drugs work, though. I am not an expert.
I wonder if drugs that treat RA might expose the patient to cancer. I wondered this about my uncle.
Didn’t they stop administering the smallpox vaccine decades ago anyway?
Anyone in the US would have to be around 50 or over.. as they stopped giving the vaccine by default in 1972....
I was born in 1971 and never had it.
More people are alive today in the US who never had the smallpox vaccine than had it.
While this is noteworthy from a research standpoint its hardly a large public health policy problem.
“Didnt they stop administering the smallpox vaccine decades ago anyway?”
Yup, in 1972.

American public against smallpox stopped in 1972 after the disease was eradicated in the United States.
So, Im wondering if they are still peddling the fake story that HIV infected people and homos still live as long lives as normal people. They cant ignore the science forever.
. . . or they could just quit poking their Johnson into somebody else’s poop chute . . .
My son had a stem cell transplant last year. It wipes out every immunization shot he got as a kid as well as the tetanus shot. It takes a year before he can take the shots so in that respect he is like a newborn
Leave it to homos to bring back all-but-abolished diseases. Syphilis was among those infections that were pretty much relegated to history until Big Gay made it fashionable again through their disgusting behavior.
I am confused
we do not immunize against smallpox
Nope. If they are on the anti-HIV medication, it would just destroy the immunity again.
That is, if I understand what is taking place properly.
I received it in 77 and it was difficult to obtain.
It makes sense. I wonder how long before the immune system is at 100%. Maybe never which includes every virus that a person is exposed to their whole life.
Glad and hope that your son is doing well. :)
