Rasmussen Shows 2:1 Opposition to Cheap Labor Legal Immigration
Breitbart ^ | 30 Dec 2019 | NEIL MUNRO

Voters overwhelmingly want companies to train and hire Americans before importing more legal immigrants or visa workers.

But liberals are far more likely than conservatives to say Congress should allow companies to import more immigrants to take jobs sought by U.S. graduates and sidelined workers, according to Rasmussen’s December survey of 1,250 likely voters.

The survey asked voters:

When businesses say they are having trouble finding Americans to take jobs in construction, manufacturing, hospitality and other service work, what is generally best for the country? Is it better for businesses to raise the pay and try harder to recruit [Americans]?

Sixty percent of likely voters agreed it is “better for businesses to raise the pay and try harder to recruit non-working Americans even if it causes prices to rise.”

Just 22 percent of Americans, including 28 percent of liberals and 16 percent of conservatives, say “better for the government to bring in new foreign workers to help keep business costs and prices down.” [...]

Eliminate welfare and see how fast these people get employed. Homeless addicts can be moved to the edge of town. Get them out of the way for their own safety.

A good deal of that 60% will nevertheless vote knee-jerk Democrat, because Republicans are icky, and that’s more important.

As consumers we have certifications for many things - GMO-free, organic, Fair-Trade, no child-labor, US Content, etc..

I would like to see a certification for products being 100% produced by US Labor - in the USA.

By my estimation this is the category where more than half of Freepers would fall. Right Bert?

No.

I have no interest or preference for bringing in foreign workers

We seem to benefit from seasonal workers to harvest crops .

I object to the influx of Mexicans who have in many areas taken over the construction trades.

You object to foreign workers who are involved in various IT jobs and I guess I agree. But, I don’t really know enough about the business to have a strong position on either side of the argument.

Should big IT compnaies train Americans with a BA in IT on the basics of how to do IT?

I commented before on the Big IT company that had a $100 million contract. From May 2018 to Aug 2019 they could not find compentent leadership. They went thru abouit 100 people, most employees, some contractors. Most natural born citizens. Some naturalized. Some non-citizens of various immigration status. At the peak they had 75 at one time.

Maybe 4 or 5 of the 100 were competent... and they were all in the trenches, not in leadership and leadership would not listen to them.

So the $100 million contract was killed in Aug 2019.

Should it have been a training project?

Construction in Atlanta is suppressed solely because there are not enough construction workers. There are excons who are strong and could do the work. But some don’t want to work that hard. Construction managers don’t want workers who are high or hung over, who show up late and are undependable.

So should construction companies teach workers good work habits?

If their labor weren’t cheap, they’d be unemployed and consuming even more welfare than they consume now. Better to keep them out than to admit them and raise the minimum wage.

There are plenty of us who care about this. I’ve been through it with IBM and I told my boss that I will NOT train foreign workers, especially Indians and Pakistanis.

IT is simple and easy to train.

Big IT does not want citizens, Americans, legal workers; they want black mailable, slaves.

Big IT hates the family.

In Japan, businesses must pay imported labor same as domestic.

Therefore they don’t have many imported engineers, nurses etc. as businesses make do with Japan nationals.

Immigration, especially the illegal kind, had always been a winning issue, one the Republicans decided not to take advantage of.

Then along came Donald Trump . . .

The phrase "We should have picked our own damn cotton" still applies.

Look at the long term damage that we are living with because we didn't do that.
