A non-binding resolution IS NOT a formal request for U. S. forces to leave Iraq, and in the end gives Salami the victory. This is exactly what he was fighting to achieve.
I do not agree with this decision at all.
Here Iran, it's yours. You win.
Thats why I am skeptical...
Trump is just doing what he does best.
Depantsing two-faced mealy-mouthed politicians.
The Iraqi Parliament engaged in some virtue signaling by demanding that we leave.
Trump called their bluff by responding “OK, we’ll leave.”
Now hours of fun and entertainment will ensue as Iraqi politicians furiously try to flip-flop and walk this back.
Lets return to the Iran-Iraq war. Let them kill each other over and over again.
“Here Iran, it’s yours. You win.”
But none of us, nobody wants it.
Whomever wants it can have it.
That’s where I am with this at the moment.
Embassy is attacked by Iranian rebels a la “get out!”
We decapitate Iran’s anti-Iraq leadership operating in Iraq.
Iraqi parliament says (under duress and with lopsided voting due to boycott) “get out!”
So we ... get out?
Yeah there’s other reasons to leave, but bad context. “Here Iran, Iraq is yours. You win.”
Unless, as some speculate, it’s Trump calling Iraq parliament’s bluff: “ya want us out, we’ll leave.” “No, wait, we didn’t mean it! Come back!”
Though, oddly, handing Iraq over to Iran might be an interesting way to defuse Iran, a la a dog catching a car tire: “you wanted it, you have it - now waste all your resources governing & subjugating it.”
We sacrificed Blood and Treasure to give the Iraqi People their Freedom. They either fight to keep it or they suffer the consequences of their own stupidity.
What they choose to do with that Gift is ther own affair.
The stipulation will be, don’t come crying to us. You own it.
Then he wasn’t a genius at all. Instead of bombs he could have called a vote. I guess he didn’t understand the idea of democracy until his dying day.
