I’m in a profession where I get most of my pay for the year on the last day of the year.

This year my combined withholding from that for state and fed was almost 60%. And basically we get nothing for that.

Logically he can’t deny more money will help the government do more. its why he’s calling for raising taxes.

He’s outright lying. Any additional money by default helps the government do more.

“In the 1970s, when Paul Allen and I were starting Microsoft, marginal tax rates were almost twice the top rate today. It didn’t hurt our incentive to build a great company,” he said.

You know, that may well have been true for Microsoft. Gates and Allen came up with some computer software at the right time, just as computers were starting to become prominent, to create an iconic company. But not many companies can get the same start that Microsoft had. High taxes can and do discourage new ideas from entering the market place.

Find good charities and donate to them. The money will positively affect more lives then government largesse..

We all know democrats will only do what they consider ‘morally right’, when compelled to by law.

These rich f*cks need calling for higher taxes need to be pounded over the head with their blatant hypocrisy at every opportunity.

In Massachusetts...about as "progressive" as you can get...the state income tax form features a line which you can check if you wish to pay tax at a higher rate than is required by law. Basically it allows you to "donate" money to the state treasury.

Howie Carr,a great Boston talk host and columnist, regularly points out the fact that in this state of about 6 million people only a few hundred check that box each year.

The people whose incomes are almost entirely Capital Gains demand higher taxes on ordinary income.

Bill Gates could do one thing...and only one thing...that would truly impress me.

That is: secretly and anonymously give away all but $10 million of his net worth to *real* charities...ones that send food to Africa rather than ones that fund art galleries...and to,furthermore, give all but $250,000 of his gross income to those same charities every year.

Of course he'll never do that because he's every bit as phony as Zuckerberg,Steyer,Doomberg,DiCaprio,DiNiro,Lard A$$ Michael Moore,Rosie O'Donuts,Ellen Degenerate...

“Additional voluntary giving will never raise enough money for everything the government needs to do.”

What the government “needs to do” is stopping finding reasons why it needs to extract more money from the taxpayers. Our government’s role has steadily increased over time (with ever more bureaucrats on the payroll). This is where the “needs” usually arise.

Bill Gates is a POS that complains American IT workers make too much money and thus worked ( bribed politicians ) tirelessly to undercut wages through H-1B WHILE SITTING ON BILLIONS THAT HE WILL DIE WITH.

How about MicroSoft stop hiring H-1B scabs and let Americans work for a change? There’s a thought.

It might not be a “scalable solution” for tax policy but it works wonders on eliminating the perception of hypocrisy.

Hey, Bill! How about we eliminate tax-free foundations, where rich people tie up their money for decades, and then live off it in luxury, like the Clintoons? How about that for a first step? You can have your foundation, but it pays taxes. Sound good?
