Qassem Soleimani Haunted the Arab World In much of the Middle East, and even in Iran, the military commander was feared, and his death has been greeted with elation.

Within hours of Qassem Soleimani, the leader of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and a man most thought invincible and all-powerful, being confirmed dead, the debate began in Washington about the legality of the strike that killed him; of how the attack would play into the political cycle of impeachment and the 2020 presidential campaign; of what the consequences would be for any potential conflict with Iran.

Yet in parts of the Middle East, the reaction was different. Soleimani was killed at about 1:00 a.m. just as he was leaving Baghdad airport and by 4:30 a.m., a group of Iraqis was marching—running, even—though the country’s capital carrying a large Iraqi flag, celebrating his death. In one video, a man’s voice can be heard lauding the killing, saying the deaths of Iraqi protesters had been avenged.

Let’s be clear: Soleimani’s death sharply increases tensions in the Middle East. It was just a few days ago that protesters breached the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. As Kathy Gilsinan and Mike Giglio note, his killing is more consequential than that of Osama bin Laden or Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, for he has an entire state that could yet seek to avenge him.

The guy was a general staff officer in the Iranian equivalent of the Waffen SS, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He conducted war against the US and his organized attack on sovereign US territory, the Baghdad Embassy, is act of war.

And this right here is why the US people loath the DC Swamp.

the debate began in Washington about the legality of the strike that killed him; of how the attack would play into the political cycle of impeachment and the 2020 presidential campaign; of what the consequences would be for any potential conflict with Iran.

At least with him and the rest of his circus of Clymers gone that's a few less for the Iranian good guys to have to wipe out when the next revolution happens there.

He was responsible for hundreds, if not thousands of US casualties in Iraq.

No, let’s be clear: the attack on the US Embassy (American soil) by militias serving as proxies for Iran sharply increased tensions in the Middle East.

the debate began in Washington about the legality of the strike

Big surprise! The Dims once again side with the enemies of the Republic.

Don't recall peep turkey about "We came, we saw, he died, evil cackle."

Just how "LEGAL" was it to overthrow North Africa, and Syria?

The IRGC are virtually the storm troopers of the ayatollahs, keeping the Iranian people and regular military under surveillance and control. They are corrupt, have tortured ,imprisoned, assassinated and otherwise acted like thugs...maybe now their mask of invulnerability is slipping

It may come as a surprise to ‘“The Atlantic” that there are few genuine tears for Soleiman among the Iranian people...or that Iraqis who lost a million people to the Rev Guard in the wars of the 80’s are celebrating in the streets

The IRGC are also the guardians of any WMD the regime possesses or is seeking

I'm less tense knowing these evil murderous terrorists are out of action.

Reading this Atlantic drivel, you might think Iran’s gonna open a can of whoopass on the US.

Of course, the Atlantic would lead the weak-minded to tremble.

Meanwhile, Iranians inside and outside of Iran are relieved.

Time for the Iranian people to launch a real coup, a wholly justified one.

Problem is they need weapons and I sense their black market contacts are on top of that.
