Pope Francis apologizes for losing his patience after slapping woman’s hand

Pope Francis has apologized after he appeared to lose his cool when a woman violently grabbed his hand while he greeted pilgrims at the Vatican on New Year’s Eve.

A video that went viral on Twitter showed an unidentified woman abruptly grabbing Francis’ hand from behind a barrier and yanking him towards her just after he reached out to greet a child during a visit to the Vatican’s nativity scene on Tuesday night.

It seemed like the woman would not release Francis’ hand, so the pontiff slapped her hand before pulling his free. Frowning in anger, he turned and strode away.

>>>(a foreshadowing of Peter)<<<

Peter was married. You do know that, right?

“And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever” (Matthew 8:14).

The Catholics on this thread have all distinguished themselves on other threads for calling out the Pope for his frequent and shocking--- appalling ---misbehavior.

None of us is a reflexive pope-cuddler.

We're defending him in this one instance because he reacted in a way that's not surprising for an 83-year-old guy who was almost jerked off his feet by a random woman in a crowd who then got him in an iron grip and wouldn't let go of him.

Other than this incident --- go ahead and call him out for heresy, idolatry and marxism, and you won't hear any complaints from me. He's worst pope in centuries, maybe the worst of all time.

Read a history of Pope Innocent . . . you can find it in the Catholic Encyclopedia. He makes Francis look tame.

Ye cats, bro, everybody knows Peter had been married. How would he have a mother-ion-law if he hadn't been married?

So, does this have something to do with the Grabbing and Slapping incident?

No, Francis is the worst.

I teach a unit on Church History for our neophytes. Over the last 20 centuries there have been popes who were drunkards, thralls of lust and brute political operators--- but Francis is in a far, far more dangerous category. He's it just after gold or girls (or boys) or a castle in Avignon, because he doesn't merely have damnable personal or political vices.

He is worse, a global existential threat, a man on a mission--- a mission to destroy the Catholic Church. We've never seen the like. Never.

It makes some of us think it may be the time of the End.

PP - you’re wrong again, Vicar does not mean substitute — a Vicar is an official acting in some special way for a superior,

In the Church of England, a vicar is the priest of a parish the revenues of which belong to another, while he himself receives a stipend. His official place of residence is a vicarage. A vicar general is employed by some bishops to assist in special duties.

The word “vicar” means someone acting on behalf of another, someone deputized. That’s where we get the word “vicarious,” meaning experiencing something through another person. A word derived from the same root is “vice,” as in “vice president,” someone who acts in the place of the president in certain situations.

It in no means in no where and has never meant “substitute”

Just like other things you may have in mind about Catholicism, this statement you made in your post is false.

Yup, just as President Trump or Obama are/were visible heads of the American people - representatives.

he should have acted better.

Frankie ain’t Jesus - he’s just a Pope and being a Pope means in everything ex cathedra (where he’s under the grace of God), he’s prone to human frailties like us all

In the 1st century many bishops were married - but none got married after being priests.

It’s the same in the other Catholic rites except hte Latin rite - married men can become priests but priests can’t go dating and get married

He may be human, but that was a poor way to behave. He should learn to control his temper.

She should not have grabbed him like that, but she was excited and wanted to touch the Pope.

I agree with what you posted, but a person is a montage of snippets where we decide how we feel about a person’s character and beliefs. That one incident only seals the opinions many have of his previous outrages and leftist politics of this person.

This Pope is lacking in good character and he is an embarrassment to the Church. He likes globalist politics first. Proof Marxist Soros picked Popes are just that.

Vicarius Christi. Nominative singular masculine noun followed by genitive of Christus. Vicarius means , acting for/ on behalf of, proxy, substitute. The term, as applied to a pope, was first used in 5th century in relation to Gelasius I.
Pretty clear that ‘substitute’ is one of the usages of the Latin vicarius

Yes. I'm on Francis' side in THIS case.

The woman was very rude, and about yanked the man out of his shoes.

HOWEVER he is not the real Pope. Benedict is, and will remain so until he passes.

I guarantee that JPII would have never let this happen, nor Benedict.

They would have moved slowly through the crowd until everyone got a chance to see/shake hands with him.

This dude, Francis acts like he's some kind of Hollywood star.

Plus he has the same politics as a Hollywood star.

Vicarious does not mean a substitute. It means acting on behalf of, and specifically of a subordinate doing the work bid by his master.

That’s the basic for the term Vicar in the Anglican communion as well.
