Weve heard this could be a possibility for quite some time: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezs House district could be redrawn based on the 2020 census. And as Beth noted, New York is projected to lose one seat. This has not caught the fiery left-winger off guard. AOC has been known this could be a potential problem. It also highlights why Democrats threw a tantrum when The Trump administration proposed the very noncontroversial change to the 2020 census by including a citizenship question.
In AOCs district, almost a quarter of its residents are noncitizens. As expected, the areas that will be heavily impacted are Democratic bastions. It strikes at the heart of their political power and roadmap to obtaining control. Coddle these groups of people together and use them to create more districts favorable to Democrats based on ethnic representatives. Democrats have had phenomenal success doing this, hence the reason why theyre lax on border security, endear themselves to illegal immigration, and bash federal authorities tasked with enforcing laws in this area, hence the targeting of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as the Gestapo in these circles.
New York is expected to lose a House seat after the 2020 Census, and state Democrats are looking to draw out @AOCs district.https://t.co/DYXvzqvWXm

"In February, The Intercept wrote that AOCs top enemy in this redrawing fight isnt conservative Republicans, but New York Democrats. Yet, the publication also noted that should AOCs district go bye-bye, she might mount another insurgent campaign. This time against incumbent Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), which could make this Democratic heavyweight her guardian angel in many ways:"
" Ocasio-Cortezs most determined adversaries are not partisan Republicans, but Democrats who say that she has been a disruptive influence. The Hill recently reported that at least one member of Congress has been urging New York party leaders to recruit a Democratic primary challenger to Ocasio-Cortez. But the news led to a surge of donations to Ocasio-Cortez, suggesting that a more efficient means of ousting her might be simply to eliminate her district."

AOC vs. Schmuckie ..... one can dream.
---- Happy New Year
Best news I have heard so far this year!! And were only a few hours into the new year.
Make Alexandria A Bar Maid Again.
That would make for a happy new year!
The dems are going to take her out one way or another. She’s the leader of The Squad and solely responsible for the impeachment debacle they now have on their hands.
I doubt she would win another election - she’s exposed what she is....Amazon blunder was a big one. However, it’s New York, so there’s no telling what might happen.
Isn’t it true that even though they were not citizens, slaves were counted in the census for purposes of representation?
I think that the key to her winning another election or not would be the strength of the incumbents in whatever districts her district is redrawn into. As her district straddles the Bronx and Queens it is a logical one to suppress, and as she identifies more with the Bronx side of things, I’d think the strength of the incumbents in the 16th and 15th districts would be likely the most relevant factors, though there are another three districts as well as Schumer’s seat that enter into consideration.
I do think that it would be in Schumer’s interest to see that she is drawn into a district where either the incumbent is retiring or she has a chance to take out the incumbent.
Aren’t you originally from Chicago?
I’m thinking NY-23.
FWIW—the Congress Critter in the 15th is 75 and retiring this cycle due to Parkinson’s. The one in the 16th is 72 and chairman of the foreign affairs committee.
I think that the most likely scenario is that AOC wins re-election in her present district while a new Dem is elected to the 15th this cycle, and then either the guy in the 16th opts to retire and AOC picks up the lion’s share of his district while losing Queens or he doesn’t opt to retire and there is a huge fight as to which two of the three incumbents get to run against each other.
Yep - would be great to see Dem daggers come out if she tried to run in a different district...
New York already is on track to lose up to two congressional seats during reapportionment due to population decline and slower rate of growth, according to a December report by Election Data Services.

than this from the intercept:
https://theintercept.com/2019/02/09/ocasio-cortez-district-redistricting-2020/
But Ocasio-Cortezs most determined adversaries are not partisan Republicans, but Democrats who say that she has been a disruptive influence. The Hill recently reported that at least one member of Congress has been urging New York party leaders to recruit a Democratic primary challenger to Ocasio-Cortez. But the news led to a surge of donations to Ocasio-Cortez, suggesting that a more efficient means of ousting her might be simply to eliminate her district.
....................
a little further down the piece at the intercept is this:
Another reason not to target Ocasio-Cortez would be Chuck Schumer. The Democratic Senate minority leader, and a major player in New York politics, is up for re-election in 2022. The commission redrawing the lines may be technically independent, but Schumers power is no secret. If Ocasio-Cortez were gerrymandered out of the House, shed need something new to do and primarying Schumer would be an obvious option on the table. That could make Schumer Ocasio-Cortezs strongest advocate at the redistricting negotiating table.
..............
So we see that even if gerrymandered out AOC could win in conceivably other house districts within NYC,so its unlikely we get rid of her.But what could happen is there are so many illegal third worlders up there they could lose two seats in the house, good news.
The bad news could be if AOC were to be outed she could run against shooooomer who is up in 2022 which is good in a way since we would get rid of her or shoomer, better for us if we get rid of shoomer since he would likely retire from politics hes old and not likely to keep up the pace.
Problem is do we really want to trade “Chuck U” for AOC,one night mare for another? So there are several win/lose situations coming up in New York and ironically many of the dems want her out as much as we do. So it may just be popcorn time for us.
The slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person each.
While libs today attack that as a racist Southern thing, it was actually the Northerners that conjured it up; they felt that counting slaves as full “people” would give Southerners an edge in representation, so they allowed them to count their slaves to a degree - since they shouldn’t be ignored altogether.
On a different note, this country really started declining when it broadened voting to include people who didn’t pay taxes. When colonists ranted against “Taxation without representation”, they couldn’t have imagined that we’d eventually have “Representation without taxation”: a situation where people who contribute nothing - in fact, they live off tax revenues from taxpayers - would have a say in public matters. At the time of our independence, only taxpayers could vote; at that time, it was limited to property owners (the taxpayers of the day, prior to income taxes). While it should be expanded today to include various other taxes that have arisen in the 250 years since, and should include tenants paying property taxes indirectly, there is no reason to allow people who pay NOTHING out of their own pockets. Even the sales tax paid by people using SNAP/WIC are in reality paid by the taxpayers who provided that assistance in the first place; the same people often don’t even pay a rent out of their own pockets, so they aren’t even indirectly paying property taxes themselves. I don’t understand the rationale in letting them vote; they are the Democrat core that delivers cities teeming with the idle permanent underclass into the Dem column every election.
“The dems are going to take her out one way or another. Shes the leader of The Squad and solely responsible for the impeachment debacle they now have on their hands.”
She’ll win in that district for as long as she’s able to run in it...but you are right, while the Democrats, at least 98% of them (all but my representative*) agree with her, they know enough to hold their fire until they’ve safely secured all levers of power. She doesn’t.
*I’m just applying the logic that conservatives use when sending their kids to public schools - ‘Yea, public schools suck, all of them, except the one that my kids go to’.
Very informative post - thank you.
Rhetorical question: Why should the number of illegals be counted as part of a district? They should not have a say as they should be considered non voters, not counted as voters.
(I know, many do vote fraudulently and even more will in NY state now that they can register due to the new law that allows illegals to register to vote when they obtain a now-legal driver’s license).
New Yorks state legislature is controlled by the Democrats, but the GOP does hold some House seats outside the state's major urban areas. Why would the state Democrats even consider a scenario where they would eliminate a DEMOCRATIC House district?
The situation has changed. AOC was in Congress and thereby accrued earning capability that some might label corruption.
She will now likely be the bar owner rather than the bar tender
You’re welcome.
I guess the representatives of those districts are using the same logic used with the slaves; they couldn’t vote either. However, by their very nature illegals don’t contribute anything (even if they work, they pay no taxes); there is no logic in counting them - especially since they are deliberately trafficked into certain dying areas just to keep the lights on, by administrations that have chased their Americans out. There is simply no reason for them to be represented in Congress when they are only there because municipalities flout the laws of this country (unilaterally declaring “sanctuaries”).
Gerrymander is Democrat Racism.
Where is the conservative judge?
Losers.
Far from it. AOC would end up making millions on the speaking circuit, with a book deal or two and as an "expert" consultant for the MSM.
