Donald Trump announced that the US embassy in Baghdad is safe after some 6,000 pro-Iran militia fighters stormed the compound on Tuesday, set walls ablaze and chanted 'Death to America!' in a violent retaliation for American air strikes.
The president doubled down in his warning to Iran, saying their government will be held 'fully responsible' for the attack that forced the Pentagon to send 100 Marines as reinforcements to the Iraqi embassy.
'The U.S. Embassy in Iraq is, & has been for hours, SAFE! Many of our great Warfighters, together with the most lethal military equipment in the world, was immediately rushed to the site. Thank you to the President & Prime Minister of Iraq for their rapid response upon request,' Trump tweeted Tuesday evening.
'Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities. They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat. Happy New Year!' he added.
In a third tweet he quipped 'The Anti-Bengahzi!' The post was an effort to distinguish his administration's response to that of the Obama administration in the 2012 attack on a diplomatic compound in Libya that left four Americans dead. The tweet, which had a spelling error, was deleted soon after.

I believe that past embassy takeovers have been presaged by "Death To America" demonstrations outside the gates.

Is it your position that we should stand down and allow Iranian militias rape a US embassy?
In the meantime, the embassy should be vacated and all U.S. ties to Iraq severed until there is peace and quiet there for 12 consecutive months.
This wasn’t a “militia” that attacked the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. It was an unruly mob of Iraqis ... and they stormed the embassy after the Iraqi prime minister condemned the recent U.S. air strikes against Shi’ite militia groups in Iraq.
Honestly the basis is all talk, no action. Nothing will happen. A big price means a war, period. Unless he is willing to unfold Operation Going to Beat your ass like $5 hooker, it’s all blociating. Don’t tweet the threat, do it.
Where did I say this? But I don’t get what is your solution as well. To declare war on Iraq and Iran over it is a bit of overreaction.
That’s the way I saw it reported initially. Not sure why things are changing to Iran.

We should vacate and never return.
But as long as we are there, we must protect the embassy.
Are you so naive as to believe this is not an Iranian action? OF COURSE we’re holding the original culprit responsible.

Iran has already conducted recon for every Diplomatic post in S.America... and worldwide.
Blaming Iran for this is a clever way of obscuring the fact that the U.S. has a serious problem with IRAQ right now.
People are always attacking Trump so I seldom care what they’re saying...most haven’t a clue what’s happening in Iraq nor Iran....What we do know is Trump has certainly called things right in the past .....and Irans just upset as usual when anyone stands up to them.

They didn’t need anything. Iran has already given them salary, training and propaganda.
Then orders.
First and foremost, “protecting the embassy” means mowing down any crowd of hostile actors that are storming it. If the U.S. wasn’t even willing to do that, then it’s kind of hard to take any of these threats against Iran seriously.
One USMC rifle squad was probably more than enough to defend the embassy against these slimeball cowards, but 100 of em, armed to the teeth and on full alert pretty much guarantees there’ll be no Odongo/PIAPS-type “Benghazi event” taking place there. Instead of threatening Iran, just do it. “When you gotta shoot, shoot”. Don’t talk.

The size of our embassy few realize. It’s a fortress not just a building. I’d encourage people to google it
