Ambassador and staff evacuated as Iraq protesters attack US embassy (in Iraq)
The Independent (UK) | December 31 | Borzou Daragahi

US embassy staff and the US ambassador in Baghdad have been evacuated, according to two unnamed Iraqi Foreign Ministry officials cited by Reuters, as hundreds of Iraqi protesters swam the embassy compound.

Iraqi supporters of a powerful Iranian-backed militia were attacking the outside of the fortified zone that surrounds the US embassy compound in Baghdad, protesting against American air strikes that killed 25 fighters from the group, news agencies reported.

We are friends with an older couple that fled Iraq. Saddam invaded their town and told them to leave or die. He took everything they had. They were upper/middle class people. They migrated here as refugees with nothing and started a business in our town. I talked with them many times when Bush was after Saddam and watched them cry while saying “God bless President Bush” so yes, a lot of them wanted us there. They despised Saddam and often claimed he was “not a real Muslim”. This couple appears to either be moderate Muslim (not radical) or Christian. They speak excellent English and she didn’t wear Muslim garb. She was always wearing jeans or Western style clothes. I never asked their religion.

I think the group that is protesting is a group that is being sponsored by Iran.

Erik Latranyi is correct. This is all organized by Iran - the IRI. It has nothing to do with ordinary Iranian people. The Iraqi people have been protesting their gov’t because of its ties to Iran. They want Iranian influence & its militias out of Iraq.

Iranian proxy militias are behind this. There have been 11 attacks since October on U.S. forces.

Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.

That’s what happens when you use our blood and treasure to defend one group of Muslims from the other.

Didn’t that nice Saddam after getting our
support in his Iran-Iraq war still try to
destroy Israel and blow up the WTC?

I hate crypto-liberals here who love despots.

They were pretty quiet when the purple
lipped rateared dogeater and Mme. Bobblehead
and their EU cronies overthrew Qaddafi
after he flipped in fright post-Iraq War and turned
over his WMD

Ultimately, the safety of our personnel is dependent upon the protection of the host government. The Iraqi government must remove these demonstrators from the Embassy compound. Where are they?

Unlike in Bengazi the “protesters”

haven’t been told that there will be

a stand down order from the US president

so I expect they will be a bit more polite

knowing the laser designators will be hot this time.

Gee, who said anything about ‘death’?

You did when you said the following:

If global progressive causes are not dying, how do you explain the UK elections?
Dying means "on or at the point of death."

We have diplomatic relations with Iraq, hence an Embassy there. A few hundred demonstrators have invaded the compound. The Iraqi government must remove them.

The Iraqi gov’t is under the influence of Iran. Iraqi security forces allowed a large group of Kataib Hezbollah militia & supporters to enter the Green Zone.
