Over 1,000 bullets and 11 guns have been lost or stolen from the Army, the Ministry of Defence has admitted amid fears they could be in the hands of criminals.
The missing munitions, including eight rifles and 1,000 rounds of ammunition taken in one burglary from a Merseyside army cadet facility, all disappeared within twelve months, a Sky News investigation found.
The news comes just weeks after the Telegraph revealed hundreds of unexploded munitions had been found in Scotland over the past three years.
Land mines, grenades and flares have all been recovered, including several in the city centres of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and were described as routine by the Ministry of Defence.
Amongst the ordnance found were several phosphorous flares which burn at extremely high temperatures and can cause life threatening injuries when activated.
Explosive munitions were also among the items reported missing from 26 September 2018 to 30 September 2019, the Sky News investigation found. It is thought that most, if not all, of the weapons and munitions are still missing.

This is Narwhals: this is for the civ market as well: ;
Lucky the brits have laws against that.
Bopefully it is British criminals who have them. And not the Muslim invaders.
Uh, if they are stolen, then by definition they are in the hands of criminals..........................
Maybe the Army had a boating accident too.
“...1,000 bullets and 11 guns...”

Everybody I know has more than that.
...possibly Jihadists.
That’s called a starter kit.
The wackiest ship in the Army?..................
Ditto what you said X 10.
The "basic household set" in Texas.
Taken in a burglary and COULD be in the hands of criminals. You got to get up priiiiiiiitty early in the morning to get something past those Wiley Brits.
Little Britain, how your empire has fallen

Can someone translate that into English? What is routine? The explosives, or the recovery?
So an armory is not being guarded 24/7?
Multiple munitions over multiple incidents? Sounds like the Brits need to learn the concept of "two-man integrity" and "lose a weapon that you're accountable for and you're going to prison." A single rifle goes missing on a U.S. military base and they put the base on lockdown until they find it.
“...the Ministry of Defence has admitted they could be in the hands of criminals.”
Gee. YA THINK? *Rolleyes*
...behind the seat of his truck.
The typical rural area stateside with a population of a few thousand people probably has 100x more firepower, and way more ammo. I like how the British press is prone to hysteria these days. The stiff upper lip is definitely extinct. As LP Hartley once wrote: “The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there”.
> army cadet facility,
Hmmm
Are we talking college kids? I mean, this could be SMLEs and a case of .303, right?
