Baltimore breaks city record for killings per capita in 2019
Associated Press ^ | December 27, 2019

Baltimore broke its annual per capita homicide record after reaching 342 killings Friday.

With just over 600,000 residents, the city hit a historically high homicide rate of about 57 per 100,000 people after recent relentless gunfire saw eight people shot — three fatally — in one day and nine others — one fatally — another day.

The new rate eclipses that of 1993, when the city had a record 353 killings but was much more populous before years of population exodus.

By contrast, New York City, with more than 8 million residents, had 306 homicides through Dec. 15.

The total is up from 309 in 2018 and matches the 342 killings tallied in 2017 and 2015, the year when the city’s homicide rate suddenly spiked.

A statement from Baltimore police said officers were dispatched late Thursday night to a location on Pratt Street, where they found a man with gunshot wounds. A police spokesman said the man died from his wounds at a local hospital early Friday.

This is the fifth year in a row that Baltimore has reported more than 300 killings. Before 2015, that number had generally been on the decline, but it reversed after civil unrest followed the death in police custody of a young black man, Freddie Gray.

Reasons for the change vary and are subject to interpretation.

Many have accused police of taking a hands-off approach to crime-fighting since six of their own were charged in connection with Gray’s death. None of the officers was ultimately convicted.

After the police were blamed for the death of Freddie Gray in May 2015, there was less policing and murders shot up, as shown in a blog post Baltimore Homicides Post Freddie Gray.

Congrats, Baltimore!

BTW, have you thought about maybe disarming the non-criminal, non-thug citizens of Baltimore? /sarc

REF: Elijah Cummings, the powerful House Democrat who represented Baltimore for more than two decades and was a vocal critic of President Trump, died early Thursday after battling health problems.

Standing with his red cape and trident, Elijah was heard saying, "damn it's hot in here".

What should be done about these urban jungles? Should federal troops be sent in to quell the violence? That’s pretty invasive. But a better idea would be to send U.S. marshals in and arrest the politicians for derelection of duty and betraying the public trust. From the sanctuary policies to other defiances of federal law these jurisdictions are nothing short of havens for lawless activity.

Like Chicago, Baltimore is becoming a Black Lives Matter war zone.

And who helped create it. The community organizer president of dirty name created it, by being involved in public campaign criticism of police departments, traducing police departments away from law enforcement using federal funds as bait and selling grant based purchases of military arms and ordinance to create bad guy cops. That piece of sh*t with a mouth, Al Sharpton’s race mongering was crucial in aid of this.

Now we have both police officers, firemen and paramedics being shot as they try to serve the public.

We have a nest of snakes in both Baltinore and Chicago, bent on the destruction of the United States as we know it.

Time to clean them out.

No more sanctuary cities or states. No more corruption via the Congressional Black Caucus. go after then all and either put them in jail, or turf them out of office one way or the other.

If the GOP sweeps the House and Senate.......we will git er done!

Before 2015, that number had generally been on the decline, but it reversed after civil unrest followed the death in police custody of a young black man, Freddie Gray.

The rise in murders - and crime in general - has nothing to do with the Freddie Gray case per se, it has to do with a city government openly hostile to the police department and accomodating of crime and criminals.

Nope, there have not been for years. And the DemocRAT mayors are climbing to new heights of corruption, while showing no ability to run a city. They are excellent demagoguers, though.

The Baltimore schools are incredibly bad, also. That, coupled with a culture that ostracizes success on the basis that successful people are acting too white, ensures a stupid, emotion-driven population that reliably pulls the D lever every election.

Those who can, flee. Meanwhile, limousine liberals block efforts to gentrify the city, on the pretext that improving neighborhoods is somehow bad for poor people.

Do your realize that Msgr Geno Baroni in Baltimore and Alinsky in Chicago created more community organizers and organizations in those two cities than any other city in the US?

Msgr Geno Baroni, in 1979-1980 imposed the Community Organizer model on Federal intervention in Housing, HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mae.

Count how many distinct unintended consequences Baroni’s CRA had on the US and the movement of people both geographically and vertically. Not at all what Baroni wanted.

The governor could send in the Maryland National Guard. But what good would that do? I guess one armed Guardsman could ride with one Baltimore city cop. That would, in effect, double the amount of cops on the street.

But that whole experiment would end the day a Guardsman shoots a citizen.

Elijah Cummings may be dead, but his legacy of chaos, wanton killings and mayhem lives on.
