A FedEx driver was robbed/shot while making a delivery on the 600 block of Unruh. Police say the driver was armed and exchanged gunfire with the robbery suspect. FedEx driver is stable, Suspect was located and is critical.

It should have been a routine delivery with the 32-year-old FedEx driver dropping off a package to a home in the area, but that’s when police say, an armed gunman approached and robbed the driver, perhaps not anticipating that the FedEx driver was also armed.

“He was able to tell police that he was making a delivery on the 600 block of Unruh and right when he got done making that delivery, he was approached by at least one male and he was robbed at point of gun,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Police say the driver was shot once in the abdomen during the robbery. Police say as they were receiving calls about shots fired in the area, the FedEx driver was able to drive himself to a nearby parking lot away from the scene.

He was transported to Einstein Medical Center and is in stable condition.

He told police that after being shot in the stomach, he pulled out his own weapon and returned fire at the suspect.

Of course, when the area was German, it was very peaceful and orderly.

Add cameras covering the front, rear, and sides to document potential thieves and porch pirates.

Granted a camera carrying truck like that kind of bothers me since its big brother-ish.

Compare that outcome with one where only the police and the bad guys had guns and they tried the same thing with a UPS driver:

200 shots fired, two innocent bystanders killed.

I hope that FedEx or the subcontractor allows the driver to keep his job. At least he gets to keep his life.

Not necessarily; the founder and president of FedEx is a vet. Wait and see.

Well, I hope FedEx gives the guy a raise and a new high capacity semi-automatic pistol!

And, I hope the Philadelphia City Council gives the guy a medal! And a concealed carry permit, presuming he does not have one.

I hope he has a permit, then.

And, I agree: “Everyone who can should carry.”

“Buddy of mine used to do fieldwork for a Telcom company and was frequently doing work deep in the ‘hood.

He carried despite company policy forbidding it. “I can find another job but my wife and kids only have one of me”.

Thanks.

I just sent your above remarks to both male and female younger relatives, who have to be in bad areas, sometimes, due to their work.

RE Company Policy: “Company Policy” is designed to protect the Company; they don’t give two craps about what happens to you. So yes, I’d carry too.

I haven’t seen that friend in years but he’s one of those whom I admire greatly as a man of faith, father, husband and friend.

He’s still with the Telcom running all the crews for that region. It’s a step down from a higher promotion he worked for a few years but decided to give up and step down so he could return to a normal family life.

Just being in Philadelphia should be an automatic permit to carry.

He should submit a bill seeking compensation for the rounds fired to the mayor. If the city will not keep scum off the streets-then they must
compensate the good citizen for doing the work the city failed to do.

RE Philly:

I grew up there. It wasn’t always the sh*thole that it is now.

My neighborhood was mostly WWII and Korea vets, rowhomes, lots of kids.

Then one day, it wasn’t any longer. And the people that moved in turned it to crap.

That is a novel approach! Bill the city for trash pickup!

Most big cities that way now. My husband’s grandparents lived in parts of NJ that are now no-go zones.
