Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell set the stage Thursday for a potentially bruising fight between the leadership of the two chambers over impeachment, as he tore into Nancy Pelosi for “shoddy work” and said Democrats may be “too afraid” to send the articles to the Senate after the House speaker abruptly held off on transmitting them.
“This particular House of Representatives has let its partisan rage at this particular president create a toxic new precedent that will echo well into the future,” McConnell said on the floor, accusing Democrats of giving in to "temptation" with their impeachment vote while challenging their handling of the articles in the aftermath.

i listened to McConnell’s remarkable speech this morning ... his main concern is that the House could tie up the Senate permanently with impeachment after impeachment because the Constitution requires the Senate to drop all other business during a trial, and thus the House could essentially control the business of the Senate.
If Pelosi persists in sitting on the impeachment articles, I see three possibilities for the Senate:
1. Do nothing ... no impeachment is in front of them.
2. Hold a trial ASAP, notifying the House that if they want an impeachment manager they better send one ASAP or the trial will proceed without one anyway, and then simply vote to dismiss the impeachment forthwith whether a House manager is appointed or not because the impeachment is invalid since no actual crimes were specified in the impeachment articles
3. Take the matter to SCOTUS, requesting them to declare the impeachment unconstitutional if it’s not transmitted to the Senate.
My guess is that the Senate will eventually simply vote to dismiss, to send the House a signal that the Senate will not waste time on frivolous impeachments ....

Exactly. The articles are indeed a Bill of Attainder...barred by Article I, ss9, clause 3 of the Constitution.
The house is Constitutionally barred from passing it, and the Senate has no duty even to recognize it. If the Senate takes this stand, then it will protect future presidents from suffering partisan impeachment.

I watched McConnell’s entire speech, and he pretty much tossed her Articles of Impeachment in the trash and tossed a match on them. They will get no more respect from the Senate than they deserve, and Mitch made it clear, that is pretty much none.
Also, after trashing their entire process as rushed, desperate, fueled by hate, illegitimate and partisan, he pretty much dismissed future impeachment attempts that did not involve a LONG, fair and bipartisan process using the courts and investigative resources to produce legitimate articles. Effectively, he set standards for Articles of Impeachment similar to the efforts of past impeachment proceedings.
I’d say he wrangled her pretty well. Playing nice and reaching across the isle has gotten us nowhere.

Nancy does not get to tell the Senate how to conduct the trial. It is the sole authority of the senate, per the constitution.
