Just under 423 million firearms were produced or imported for civilian ownership in the United States from 1986 to 2018, indicating that the number of guns currently in circulation remains substantial.

~snip~

In addition, a new industry report from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry's trade group, found that over 17.7 million modern sporting rifles—a term that encompasses semi-automatic rifles such as the AR-15—were produced or imported overall from 1990 to 2017.

The counters must account for the boating accidents.

They don’t take into account the number of firearms that are in private hands prior to 1986, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s at least double that number.

Some jackass from New York has been running TV ads here in the Florida Panhandle. He is running for president.

Attacking gun owners, the NRA etc. Rather stupid as that will not go over well here. He apparently has plenty of money to waste.

Also, since the time span used to come up with the 423 million firearms only began at 1986, the figure is almost certainly on the low end. For instance, my 1930’s era Mosin-Nagant is not included in that figure.

I have at least...uh, well, a few that I owned, purchased by me, much prior to 1986, not to mention those that I have inherited from my father, two uncles and a grandfather, prior to 1986.

I won't reveal the exact number, but if there at least 1/3 the amount of folks out there in my shoes, the number they cite in this report would probably double.

If not more.

Suck it, libs.

Trigger that.

I saw a great meme that said over 400 million gun owners in America, if we were the problem, you’d know it.

I would never own a gob of firearms, but if I did they were mostly made well before 1986.

With a single exception, every gun I own was made before 1986.

Guns without ammunition are clubs.

If you can’t get ammo in a timely fashion, those weapons are useless. They’re expensive paperweights.

Yeah, but how much AMMO do you have?

Just posted a short article calling for NO defense action on Walmart property for ANYONE until they reverse the cessation of handgun ammo sales.
