seems like the obvious solution is to simply move Vox Media “world headquarters” out of california and into some business-friendly state that’s NOT california ...

I work on the fringes of the ‘gig’ economy.

I am an employer, not hiring on contract.

In my niche I see kids being abused by some of the app platforms. By the time these kids are done for the day between drive-time appointments they realize they are losing money. Or one of them gets injured or attacked by a dog and suddenly they find out they are not covered under WC. Or the customer is on the receiving end of a lawsuit for having unsafe conditions or expecting these kids to work in all sorts of dangerous weather conditions. This particular app service just told IC’s that if they don’t maintain a 5 star rating ...they get dropped from the app. So if the see 5 clients one day and one client is the type of person who never gives 5 stars ...even if service was over the moon good...the kid loses the ability to be on the app. And they have no recourse.

Not everything in the gig economy is great. It is rife with abuses on both sides.

I certainly understand. People can be exploited. And as a gig employee, if you pay taxes, I imagine that you are considered self-employed.

There is great demand for a real news service (vs propaganda outlet), so they’d have little difficulty finding a paying audience.

I disagree with this. They would have little difficulty finding a paying audience IF THEY COULD KEEP THIER BIAS OUT OF THERE WRITING. That they simply cannot do.
