Former Director: FBI ‘Not a Broken Institution,’ Criticizing It Threatens ‘Rule of Law’
Breitbart ^ | 12/16/19 | JOSHUA CAPLAN

Former CIA and FBI Director William Webster declared in an op-ed Monday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is not a “broken institution” and criticizing it threatens the “rule of law,” in an attempt to quell public outcry over agents’ misconduct during the 2016 election.

Webster’s full-throated defense of the two agencies comes amid the fallout from the Department of Justice Inspector General (IG) report, in which it was confirmed that FBI officials made 17 “significant inaccuracies and omissions” in its submissions to the FISA court to obtain warrants to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page during the 2016 presidential election.

“The rule of law is the bedrock of American democracy, the principle that protects every American from the abuse of monarchs, despots and tyrants. Every American should demand that our leaders put the rule of law above politics,” he added.

Webster then lashed out at President Donald Trump for criticizing the FBI over DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s findings, suggesting his remarks threaten the bureau’s independence. The former official expressed his full confidence in FBI Director Christopher Wray and said the notion that he could be removed from his post, akin to the bureau’s previous director, James Comey, “disturbs me greatly.”

Webster then took aim at the president for referring to anti-Trump FBI officials implicated in Horowitz’s report as “scum” and attempted to cast doubt on Attorney General William Barr’s independence, citing U.S. Attorney John Durham’s now-criminal investigation into the origins of the FBI’s Russia probe.

I disagree and would go with exactly the opposite...
NOT being able to criticize them threatens the rule of law...

When some interviewer said to Sydney Powell, that 95% of the FBI rank and file were good, solid, honest patriots, she said the top corrupt FBI leaders had many many years of hiring who they wanted to hire down rank, and intimated they chose hires like themselves.

I don’t criticize the FBI. I criticize a lot of the people in it.

Vast difference.

Reminded of some Obamabots who suggested it should be treason to speak ill of the Dear Leader.

Not to mention King Charles I of England.

He had the same attitude.

So not a single person at this “fully intact” institution knows who called CNN before raiding Roger Stone then right? Nobody? Nada?

THEY LIED REPEATEDLY TO SPY ON A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE....

To say this organization is not broken is nonsense.

Most of the rank and file are decent public servants, but clearly there are folks in its leadership that are corrupt as hell.

Sorry, but that’s absolute CRAP!

I know many FBI Agents who are superb and fine human beings, many have served their country in the military before even entering the FBI!

Don’t you dare try to claim that every FBI agent is indecent!

There are clearly corrupt individuals in this organization and Comey is a snake, but don’t for one minute try to claim every person in the FBI is indecent.

William Webster would do a lot more for restoring the public trust in the FBI by admitting it is broken and positioning himself among those calling for reforms.

Mr. Webster needs to wake up and smell the coffee. The FBI is broken and cannot be repaired. They attempted a coup and got caught and it is historical. I have heard several normally quiet people say they will never trust the FBI.

Maybe Trump needs to skim the scum layer off the top. The issue is how deep to scoop.

Sadly, as long as the coupist FIBbers have top cover from the Uniparty they are home free.

My respect for Webster has been diminished greatly by his comments.

People still have a 1st Amendment Right in this country. He should have defended that first and foremost. But he didn’t - he attacked people for exercising their 1st Amendment rights as a threat to the rule of law. What a joke, except it is more serious than that. Did he ever think before he shot off his big old CIA-FBI mouth why the FBI and CIA were being criticized?

He seems to be in denial that his institutions have scum in them and it is they who are the real threat to liberty, lying to courts, cozying up to protect and help the “other party” and their criminals, fabricating evidence, perjuring themselves, illegally spying on American citizens under the pretext of national security, immune from legal jeopardy because they are “above the law” as agency insiders who wouldn’t waste a nanosecond to set up and take down a person they decided needed to be taken down. He should be calling for the prosecution of his agencies’ scum and what they have done to damage the agencies and the rule of law. How about speaking about the damage the congressional demokraps, the complicity of the GOPe, illegal aliens, the major media, selective prosecutions have done to the rule of law? Where were you defending Trump from false accusations planted by your agencies and now that the proof is out there, where are you Mr Casey? Kill the messenger Mr Casey, kill the Constitution. You brought it upon yourself, you failed to protect us and our institutions. Now it is our problem to deal with - get off the stage.

The FBI was corrupt under Obama and many at the top of the FBI are still corrupt.

The FBI is a clear and present danger to our nation as it is now constructed as is our corrupt judiciary. However, the greatest clear and present danger is a corrupt media. The media has great legal privileges that the ordinary citizen does not have. They have this as our founders wanted the media to have the ability to get the truth to the people. When the media varies from this, they become a threat to our nation and constitution.
