Brazilians arrive in waves at the US-Mexico border

The quiet migration of around 17,000 Brazilians through a single U.S. city in the past year reveals a new frontier in the Trump administration's effort to shut down the legal immigration pathway for people claiming fear of persecution.

Like hundreds of thousands of families from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, known collectively as the Northern Triangle, Brazilians have been crossing the border here and applying for asylum. They now make up a quarter of immigrants apprehended in El Paso, the most commonly apprehended migrants after Mexicans...

Massachusetts officials and community leaders say they've felt the surge in Brazilian migrants this past year, with more families seeking immigration services and enrolling their children in public school. The state has the second largest population of Brazilians in the U.S. after Florida, according to 2015 U.S. Census data.

I am surprised they would want to go to Mass. its freakin cold up there, all the time.

I dated a Brazillian girl one time, in Jersey, once it started to cool off in late August, like 70’s degrees instead of 80’s she was already freezing wearing her winter coat. I was still wearing shorts and t shirt lol.

Nah, I don’t see Portuguese becoming the dominant language of the United States

There is no doubt in my mind this is organized, choreographed by the left as all of our dilemmas of late.

These people are coming for economic benefit. Asylum my butt.

Great costs are accrued to travel from Brazil to here, and then to the New England area. Where are these broke families getting their resources?

Good one... I agree, and...

First they came in Hundreds, then Thousands, soon Millions, and now Brazilians! Heck, if they could, they'd congregate in one city and come in by the Tripolians.

You’re thinking of Bazillions, not Brazilians.

Keeping them on the other side of the wall will cost Mexico $ Brazilians.

Are they there to help with the construction of the wall?

The Portuguese have been fishing off New England and Newfoundland for close to 2000 years. Gloucester MA is a fishing community that seems to be the epicenter for the Portuguese in the US.

So that Brazilians race to MA to meet up with family is no surprise. And to sign up for all sorts of extended benefits.

Right before they take a job in another state, often in one of the hundreds of churrascaria that have popped up across the US in the past 30 years.

So, we have extended family in the US;
a state with generous social welfare benefits;
a state with officials that have been known to look the other way in welfare fraud investigations;
and a new life far from the slums of Sao Paulo ...

What's not to like for those 17,000+ felons arriving in the past year?
