>>Over the past week, I have heard from three seasoned Republicans who fear that President Trump and the West Wing are seriously underestimating the potential danger of a Senate trial.<<

I believe there are many who are seriously underestimating the danger of removing our President from office.

If you can’t “resist the temptation to reverse the election” you deserve the consequences and so does a citizenry that would allow it.

I agree. A senate trial only legitimizes this travesty.

Exposing Bidens family dealings will expose them all

We all wonder how they become millionaires in a few years on a $174,000/yr salary

They have the assistance of their own Congressional Laundry Service to keep their funny money nice and clean

If 20 Republicans were to support the other side in an impeachment trial, wouldn’t they just as easily step out of line on absolving Trump as well?

IMHO any day Trump must be covered on tv is a day he will become more popular. If we had a decent GOP they’d use a Senate trial to wipe the floor with the Democrats.
Bring in that lying dope Biden and his drug addict son. I’d put Hillary on the stand and let her embarrass herself defending all the things she’s been saying.
And I’d embarrass every Democrat senator running for president - how dare they vote to remove an opponent they can’t beat?
But no we have girls like Susan and Lindsay.

People post that sh!t about Justice Roberts’ adopted kids without even thinking about what they’re posting.

What kind of leverage would anyone have over him now? Could he lose custody of them? Those “kids” are now 18 or 19 years old.

Then appeal to the Supreme Court to have the "impeachment" declared bogus, unconstitutional, illegal, and politically motivated and thus nullified. Before the Court, President Trump's lawyers can subpoena as witnesses everyone involved in this "impeachment" scam, including Schiff, Nadler, Pelosi, their witnesses, and everyone even peripherally associated with it, and they can expose the truth before history and all the world.

At the Supreme Court one can only submit legal memos and make oral arguments. There are no witnesses.

"But either way the GOPe can screw this up for Trump."

The GOP has time and again proved they can very easily snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I VOTE FOR QUICK DISMISSAL because the DemonRat House's impeachment stunt is ILLEGITIMATE and therefore should NOT be LEGITIMIZED with a trial.

A trial in the Senate LEGITIMIZES the House's actions when we ALL KNOW THEY'RE FULL OF SCHIFF!

There is a theory being floated that former Energy Secretary Rick Perry will backstab President Trump over LNG ( Liquid Natural Gas ) ports in Odessa. Sorry, don’t have any more details, but conflict energy means big, big money.

No, the Senate will not convict him in any possible universe.

And conjecture otherwise is just plain silly.

It wouldn’t surprise me, nor would it surprise me at the lack of an organized response if they did successfully remove Trump from office.

“The main reason to go quick is Roberts IMO.”

Roberts, or any other judge, has no influence on the proceedings or the outcome.

It can’t be appealed to the Supreme Court. There are no provisions for that in the Constitution. It ends in the Senate and there is no SC involvement other than the presiding judge.

the purpose of this article is to just foment GOP distrust-just see what it has done here with the post on this article

a quick dismissal may be the way to go only because the mainstream media still controls the narrative-e.g Fox news might get 4-5 million but the other s CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN pull in 20-25 million all together

just like they didn’t carry Lindsey Graham’s opening statement in the hearing on the IG report-

they still shape what a majority think-that’s how they got to almost half supporting impeachment

I believe little of what the Hill reports.

I can't speak to that as a general principle but you are dead right on this article.

What this report tells me is that there are probably more than one GOP Senator who is worried about the sweet deals he or she has going that needs to kept out of the light. Looking into corruption in the Ukraine, for example, could lead to looking for corruption elsewhere.

If so, the type and length of the trial is an issue. The final vote is not. Silly to think so.

I don’t think the SC Judge would do that and shouldn’t do that. That is not his role. This is not a courtroom but the Senate and the evidence is presented or not presented and then they vote whether it takes a few days or weeks. It’s not his role to dismiss.

What about the long term ramifications?

If the Democrats are allowed to get away with impeaching a Republican president for virtually no reason, it will cripple our system of government going forward.

Republicans need to make the Democrats pay dearly for what they’ve done.

I don’t trust the repubs. If they have too much time, they might change their minds and stab Trump in the back. I vote for quick dismiss also.
