I may be wrong here and I’m sure someone has the answers. If Northam calls up the VANG, is he not nationalizing them? If they are called up AND it means they are “nationalized”, then are they not predisposed to support the 2nd Amendment and not some State Legislature-passed law?

Also, I believe the Major General that is the Commander of the VANG is actually a political appointee.

Here is how it goes down:

VA GOV: Turn in your guns!
Citizens: NO!
VA GOV: Police, go get them!
Cops: Hell, NO are you crazy!?
VA GOV: TAG (the adjutant general of VANG), go get those guns! Assemble the troops!
VA TAG: Uh, sir, only 20% of troops showed up at armory.
VA GOV: Go get some guns!
POTUS: This is President Trump, I just federalized all your National Guard/Reserve Troops in your state and ordered them to go home. Nice Try.

If Northam calls up the VANG, is he not nationalizing them?

He would be activating them for state use, not nationalizing them.

Guard units are “nationalized” when called up by the federal government. Northam is Virginia’s governor, not the US President. He can call up the VNG for major emergencies, respond to invasions, etc. Ordinary policing, probably not. Only scenario for VNG related to Northam’s anti-2ndA agenda would be a large scale armed insurrection.

Calling up the NG is not “nationalizing” them.

Nationalizing a NG outfit means the Feds take over not some blackface wearing Governor.

....the VANG would not be “nationalized”... that appears to be a poor choice of words.... for example, when the Governor of the Commonwealth calls out VANG units in times of snow or flooding etc. he is within his rights to do so, but those Guardsmen (oppps, sorry...not PC enough...”Guardspersons”) are not serving under Title 10 rules if I recall...

From what I understand, the NG serves at the discretion of the state governor in order to quell disorder and to protect the citizenry. However... if the president intervenes and federalizes the NG, the president can then order them to stand down. This occurred in Selma AL, when black schoolchildren were barred from entering an all-white school. The president intervened, the NG was ordered to back off, and the girls were escorted into the school.

No he is not. If Northam calls them up, it is no different than DeSantis calling the Florida Guard up for hurricanes.

If the President activates them, then it’s federal.

I’m not so sure that Northam and his cohorts actually know who makes up the National Guard. Someone commented that the Virginia Guard is only 7000 strong. Of that, I can tell you that a significant amount of them are Support personnel. They are not the Infantry from the 2nd Marine Division or 82nd Airborne. Lots of clerks, medics and truck drivers in there. And I doubt any of them want to guns from their family and friends.
