"My personal view is the House conducted a partisan show trial," Cruz said Thursday. "They denied due process. They didn't allow the president to cross-examine witnesses. They didn't allow Republicans to call witnesses. I think the Senate needs to do better. We need to respect due process. We need a fair proceeding. That means we need to let both sides present their case."
"If the president wants to call witnesses, if the president wants to call Hunter Biden or the whistleblower, the Senate should allow the president to call witnesses in his defense," the Senator said.

Cruz in response to Lindsey Graham who has been quiet on his no witnesses stance lately. Lindsey must have been told to stand down.
Why is that even in question?
Because Graham, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, who makes the rules and calls witnesses came out and said he was not interested is calling any witnesses. He made an earlier comment about not having a trial. Then said we would have a trial with witnesses. Then he flip flopped again and said no witnesses. Now he is quiet. And Mitch said he will do what Trump wants.
Because many in the Senate GOP and those befriended or related to them are knee-deep also in the muck.
And after all these years, it is time for the defense to cross-examine the fake witnesses.
The Lefties want to get this all wound up in the "brains" of the retards.
The recommended course of action?
Mock the charges with a one-sentence dismissal, then go straight to a vote.
It would be devastating.
I can see the desire for a "spectacle", but annihilating the anklebiters by p*ssing in their faces would be nuclear.
Cruz is right. Why do you think Deep State Republicans like Linda want to just dismiss it?
Graham is scared Schiff less that they will find out that he and McCain along with the DNC that were also involved in framing Trump. This would be great to get rid of this idiot!
Well then Scott Adams is wrong. Not having a trial and not calling any witnesses will just be spun as meaning you are guilty. Trump is right. It must be a spectacle as it will be the only way for people to see and hear about it. The Democrats have had the media for 3 years peddling lies. Trump deserves 2 weeks to defend himself.
I’d bet that the president is on to Graham.
If Trump wants vindication he can appoint a special counsel to investigate corruption in the Ukraine.
The Democrats can use the house to investigate Trump, but Trump can't use the presidency to investigate them back? I don't get it. Time to go on the offensive.
Pick up the win, mock the Left for their brainless dipshitery, and relish the moment.
Introduce complexity, and allow the Left's lawyers and Media to respond - we might lose.
You're aware that the Left has ALL the Media artillery battalions, yes?
Civil and criminal trials in the U.S. attempt to adhere to a formalism that ensures the rights of the accused. The House has pissed on all that. The Senate can now continue the clown-car, or put a stop to it.
I trust Hitlary more than I trust Cruzdas.
Who was the first “never Trumper”?
There is nothing to be gained by calling witnesses. They will just attack Trump.
That will never happen. Cruz will destroy these witnesses on the stand.
Cruz is right. If you just dismiss it, then the Democrats will run on the claim that “Moscow Mitch didn’t hold a trial because evidence would have come out showing Trump guilty, and so now you need to elect Democrat senators to hold Trump accountable in case he manages to win his reelection.” Of course that is nonsense, but the MSM will back that up 100 percent 24/7, so it is dangerous to follow what Lindsey Graham is talking about. Trust Trump. He wants witnesses.
That’s not the question. I want what Trump wants and so does Cruz. You want what Lindsey wants who was the original neverTrumper.
Adams explains that the Persuasion play is to mock each charge with a single sentence, and then go straight to a vote.
Otherwise, you allow the opposing side to bring in their heavy artillery.
Actually an excellent point.
