I think they meant to say....Supreme Court will take up Trump’s broad claims of CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.
If a President is suspected...seriously suspected...of a serious crime the answer is to impeach and remove him/her from office and *then* he/she can be criminally investigated in the same way anyone else could be.
Actually there should be a land mark ruling limiting Congress’s abuse of it investigative powers for partisan political reasons.
The Court has an excellent opportunity here to smack the Congress for it reckless abuse of power hard. The Court needs to hit them hard to impose a reminder of the legal limits on their powers in dealing with Co Equal branches of Govt.

I wouldn’t be so sure about the outcome of this. They probably took the case because of its national importance, not necessarily that they want to reverse the lower court.
Not just Trump’s claims. This will impact every POTUS from now going forward.
Even the headline is biased, as if Trump is claiming nobody can investigate him for any reason.
His claim is that the Congress does not have rights it only recently claimed for itself - the ability to obtain and scrutinize the financial and tax returns for a president and everybody in his family and personal and professional business circles in a desperate and political search for crimes unspecified.
I thought we already had 4th amendment rights...
Broad claim?
No, it’s a rather simple one. He has Constitutional rights just like everyone else.
If there is known criminal activity, a subpoena can be obtained, but there is no evidence.
This was a fishing expedition and everyone knows it.
Imagine if the Congress had subpoenaed all the financial records of George Washington.
Or Jackson, Jefferson, Madison.
Or Clinton, Bush, Obama.
What a sight that would be...
Alas, I cannot envision the USSC siding with the Congress. And a rational court would say they have no role in the dispute.
But in the modern era the most we can hope for is a ruling that protects POTUS under a combined umbrellas of the 4th Amendment, but mostly Executive Privilege.
A President has some limited right to privacy, and has agreement with the Courts that any oversight privilege he grants to Congress will not be harassing or in any way impede the effective execution of duties under the constitution.
Thus is the unwritten, extra-constitutional compromise of “Executive Privilege” vs “Congressional Oversight”.
When Congress and President compromised on that they made the courts the supreme arbiter of the US constitution and the superior branch of the three branches.
But there is but a SINGULAR enforcement mechanism and that is Impeachment and removal of the Executive. And none on Congress.
The “Imperial President” was the creation of the founding fathers. Awarded with immense power and discretion. As chief enforcer of the law, he was above the law. And he had sole possession of every means of enforcement at the federal level. Commander in Chief of the Army and the Navy.
His only checks were removal from office if the 2/3 of the Senate wanted it to be so. Or, his defeat at the next election. Or the House refusing to fund him.
More like the limits of congressional and local prosecutor's power.
This President has been HARASSED more than any in the last 50+ years.
We don’t need to be concerned with a millionaire’s taxes when he becomes a politician. We need to be concerned with politician’s taxes when they become millionaires on a government salary.
If they rule against President immunity from such lawsuits does it also open up records for Congress and federal judges?
Why can’t all of Presidents Trump’s records be sealed like the POS who was in the White House before Trump?

I am not about to read the Post, but I assume it is about Trump’s tax returns and has nothing to do with Trump seeking protection from investigation.
