House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) surprised his colleagues and the media by announcing late Thursday night that the votes on articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump would be postponed until 10:00 a.m. Friday morning.
Republicans exploded in outrage. Ranking Member Doug Collins (D-GA) protested angrily that the sudden schedule change had not been discussed with the opposition.
Other Republicans interjected, as Nadler gaveled the hearing closed. Stalinist! Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-TX) shouted. Others said that Nadlers move was symbolic of the arbitrary rule they had come to expect on the committee.
Reporters were also stunned. We are genuinely surprised, all of us, MSNBC anchor Brian Williams said. Correspondent Garrett Haake agreed, noting that there had been genuine anger from Republicans at being blindsided.
Collins vented his frustration as the cameras rolled. Chairman Nadlers integrity is zero. His staff is zero, Collins told the press. That was the most Bush-league play I have ever seen in my life, because they just want to get in front of the camera.
Everyone Democrats, Republicans, and journalists had expected a vote, after a debate that began at 7:00 p.m. the night before, continued well into the night, reconvened at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, and ended at about 11:15 p.m.

Is it wrong that I havent stopped laughing yet?
What made it a surprise?
Hmmm....I wonder if the election result in the UK made them poop their pants?
One more day of “news.”
Well, well, well...do the Republicans even need to show up for the vote? I mean even if they do...nothing is going to change in the committee vote result if they are there or not?
But...if they cannot vote without the Republicans present...say maybe they reconvene on Monday? LOL. It’s all political theater anyway...what the heck?
As far as being the headline going into the weekend...voting last night made more sense. Then they could all be on the press circuit today/this morning...
Good chance they don’t have the votes. There’s no more of a case for impeachment than the other THREE times they tried. I bet the moderate and vulnerable dems are about sick of this crapshow.
That’s what I said to my wife last night. Can’t imagine they don’t have the votes to get out of committee, but I can’t think of any other reason. All they need is a simple majority. They should have been able to call for a vote anytime and win. It was interesting that yesterday during a heated interlude Republican Doug Collins asked for exactly that and was blown off by Nadler. Maybe Collins knows something.
Most likely they needed to strong-arm a few recalcitrant dems into voting the right way, or they would feel the wrath of the democrat party.
75 percent likelihood.
They want to determine if they can let some members skate so the dems can keep the majority in the house next election. No majority... no further impeachments or power to poop on us, and Trump will bulldoze their stalinist-commie agenda for the next 4 years.
I dont see any path to victory for them.
This may be like an early Christmas present
for us!
Brexit Boris whispered in Nadlers fat ear.
They have the votes. This is all about TV coverage.
Lol! HANDSOME group of women..thank gawd for...their...brains...
....bwhahaha!!
Seems the rat now knows he is in the middle of the trap.
They have the votes, otherwise Nancy wouldn’t have scheduled it.
But they decided they wanted it conducted for primetime television viewing, also giving their lapdog MSM buddies overnight to prepare their talking points.
The internals probably say that he doesn’t have the votes.
