WASHINGTON - The White House has reached a “deal in principle” with Beijing to resolve the 17-month U.S.-China trade war, according to a source briefed on the trade talks.

The White House was expected to make an announcement later on Thursday, the source said.

“The written agreement is still being formulated, but they have reached an agreement in principle,” the source said. No details were immediately available.

In an attempt to secure a “phase one” trade deal, U.S. negotiators offered to cut existing tariffs on Chinese goods by as much as 50% and suspend new tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on Sunday, two people familiar with the negotiations said earlier on Thursday.

The U.S.-China trade war has slowed global growth and dampened profits and investment for companies around the world.

I don’t expect it to be 100% of what we wanted.
No country is going to cut a deal unless it’s a win-win.

I just expect Trump to do a better job with these than all of the globalists who preceded him.

NO TARIFF CUTS.

Trump needs to shoot that idea down and not delay the tariff hikes.

No country? We've been doing it for 40 years before Trump came along.

The problem with any deal is that the Chinese cheat. They cheat endlessly, and they don’t see a problem with it. It’s as if they were coaching the New England Patriots.

You do what works. If it means cutting “some” tariffs....so be it. The object is “Free Trade”.

Just musing...

Seems to me there’s ‘news’ of a deal on Thursday- the last day of trade in Asia- raising China market.
Then news of trouble on Friday- lowering our market.
Then good ‘news’ on Sunday for the opening of Asia markets.

Makes no sense and can’t swear to my observation.

What is China giving in return? Can it be monitored for compliance?

Im used to hearing the term “In principle” when it comes to NBA trades, usually once the agreement is made, even when its not signed on the dotted line, its done, but you are right, til its signed anyone can still back out

Despite what others have posted, I am optimistic that this is a good START. And if it gives Trump a continued booming economy and stock market that will help with future negotiations all the better.

While tariffs have helped push China’s economy down, there were forces even greater that would have made China collapse anyway....Marxism. We do NOT want China to totally collapse into chaos. That would be bad for us and the rest of the world.
