The Millennials-Versus-Boomers Fight Divides the Democratic Party: The young left has become a sort of third party.
The Atlantic ^ | December 10, 2019 | Derek Thompson

The United States is a fortress of gerontocracy besieged by a youth rebellion. America’s leaders are old—very old. The average age in Congress has never been higher, and our national leaders are all approaching 80. Nancy Pelosi was born in 1940, Mitch McConnell came along in 1942, and Donald Trump, the baby of this power trio, followed in 1946, making him several weeks older than his predecessors Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. The two leading candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, are 77 and 78 years old, respectively. Every individual in this paragraph came into the world before the International Monetary Fund and the CIA; before the invention of the transistor and the Polaroid camera; before the Roswell UFO incident and the independence of India.

As a Generation Xer, being ignored is just a normal part of life. On the plus side, can just sit back, watch, and enjoy the Boomers and Millenials tearing each other apart.

The Zoomers are coming fast. They are the Medication Generation and most open to Socialism because it keeps them from having to cope with life.

Somewhat fitting that the very libtard Millenials that are fighting against the Boomers were educated by libtard Boomers... basically having to now fight against more psychotic, brain-dead, socialist-loving scum than themselves.

“...and enjoy the Boomers and Millenials tearing each other apart.”

I have just become aware that that is suppose to be going on. Complete stupidity. Are the Millenials jealous?

It has always been the case that the older generations have accrued more due to more time on the job.

It was the Left that created the conditions that plague the Millenials, and going further in that direction will not remedy the situation, for certain.

They may want to vote in politicians who will take from Boomers and give it to them, but the same thing, but more severe, will happen to them on down the line.

I know it’s not all Millennials, but Millennial Democrats - it is sad to see so many young people who want to “progress” back 50 years to either the terror of Mao’s Cultural Revolution or the stagnation of Brezhnev’s USSR. They admire the system in Venezuela where people are starving, but it’s a crisis for them if they can’t get the latest IPhone in their favorite color today because the store is sold out of that color and will have to order it. I guess they imagine they will be a privileged comissar in the new socialist utopia. They don’t realize their privilege might be that they will get to shop at a special store that will have a lot less than the Wal-Mart they despise today.

Well, it can’t be said nobody was warned, esp. when it comes to the GenX+ crowd taking it in the shorts for grand-parents+ “living large” via broke(n) SS/MediXYZ while they become economic slaves...Just WAIT for that retirement boom to kick in in the next couple years to begin to hear the howls.

"The young left has become a sort of third party."

I remember that. When I was the age of "the young Left", I, too, was quite foolish. When asked, I called myself "liberal". I didn't, at all, understand what the word really meant. It just sounded cool.

Then some sobering events occurred. 1, I got a job. When I first heard what my starting salary would be, I thought I was RICH! I couldn't believe I would actually get that much money for simply working. My road from liberal to conservative got quite a jolt when I got my first actual paycheck. Much of my riches went missing. Instead of being paid what I was offered, the government took away federal withholding, state withholding, Social Security, and Medicare taxes. The company even took away more, as well. I was no longer rich, I didn't even have enough left to pay for all the things I thought I needed, such as a car, an apartment, food, insurance, gas, and maybe, once and a while, a date and a movie. I was no longer rich, and I was no longer liberal.

My conversion from liberal to conservative became complete when I got married and then started a family. A whole lot more responsibilities cemented my ideological position.

One big issue today with Millennials, is that the government, education, and media have hidden, or even removed a number of these responsibilities from individuals. If someone doesn't get a job, or doesn't get married, a great number of these trigger points simply don't get crossed.

Wait until they find out that it was the left wing Boomers who destroyed their chance at collecting social security when they are ready for retirement.

That can be a Republican campaign ad against the Democrats.

On the other hand, I've had the good fortune to meet many good Conservatives, Millennials, Boomers, and fellow Xers, and the great thing is that whatever differences (how many immigrants to allow, H1Bs, how much military intervention) there are in our brands of Conservatism, we are, to a man and woman, united in our love of America and desire to defend the Constitution.

Yes, there are Conservative Millennials.

I can recall a similar reaction when I saw how little of our mortgage payment went to principal. So we started paying double when we could because then the overage went all to principal.

The Millennials-Versus-Boomers Fight is dividing alright but it was designed to divide first the country and next conservatives but it has boomeranged and is dividing the liberals. Divide and conquer has been the goal of the left for a century or more. Keep Americans at each others throats while implementing socialism.

Hi, millennials! Let me ask you a few questions. First, if you’re so smart and well-educated, how come you can’t make any money and get rich? The boomers are old and living in the past, it should be easy to take over, right?

Now suppose we did have a socialist economy. Who do you think would be paying all the taxes, and who do you think would be collecting all the benefits? Let me give you a hint: people under 40 don’t consume much in the way of medical services. College tuition? Too late, you’ve already had your education.

I fear it’s not just within the D party. Boomers being older tend to tilt more right than younger lefties. Look for aggressive attacks on we Boomers in general.

It could get ugly. There’s more of us than them and they won’t accept our rules. The radical ones —currently OK with murder at birth—will endorse a new twist on assisted suicide; encouraged suicide...or worse...: forced suicide.

Deteriorating health in advanced seniors eats up many resources ($) that could be spent on them. Obama encouraged it years ago. Give ‘em a pill, get comfortable and watch ‘em die.

However, the same Boomer Leftists were Wacko, crazy hippies when they were that age, and continue to be the same person, but just more sophisticated in their Liberal actions today.

Sure, but they aren't taking over with a surplus. 'They' are inheriting a quasi socialist state that has ran up massive debt. Somebody will have to pay the price, boomers will be gone. It falls to the 'youth'. Throw in the stupid laws of the past, 1965 immigration reform, 86 amnesty, etc. The youth today don't stand a chance.

From what I've seen, the Zoomers seem to tack right. They hate censorship and virtue signaling and according to my 13 year old, lots of them are Trump fans (in New Jersey!). I think a generation finally figured out that when rock starts, the media, and the politicians all agree on leftist politics, you rebel by tacking to the right, not joining the amen chorus.

That and the fact that leftists are ruining the things they care about: movies, TV, video games and the internet.

50 years ago the Boomers were the Commie brats who rioted at their parents’ 1968 DNC convention.

The old folks will be waitlisted and denied health services. Extending their lives costs Social Security.

Jocelyn Elders got fired for saying that in the 1990s.

The bit about firing her over a kerfluffle over masturbation is just cover.

And as a member of the Baby Boom generation, I remember well the motto of the 1960s- “Never trust anyone over 30.” So I have seen each generation turn against the one before it, saying “Those old fools screwed things up. We’re going to do it right this time!”

And though I may be gone by then, I enjoy knowing that Xers and those coming after you will be “ tearing each other apart” just as viciously, if not more so. Your turn in the barrel is coming soon enough.
