2 Shooters Fire At Civilians, Police From Jersey City Rooftops

Yet another stunning active-shooter incident is unfolding Tuesday afternoon in New Jersey City, as two armed suspects fire on police officers using what appear to be sniper rifles as the shooters jump from rooftop to rooftop trying to escape, according to local media reports.

Loud gunshots can be heard in videos posted to social media. At the end of the video below, a man can be heard shouting “they took him out”, though more gunshots followed.

What makes it a sniper rifle? Does it have a scope carefully calibrated for the angle he intended to fire from? You could do the same with a carefully sporterized Carcano and a scope. Usually, snipers will use bolt action rifles, because the firing pin goes strait in, I think. .50 caliber sounds more like what one would use in a belt-fed automatic to fire from a helicopter at targets on the ground.

Shootout in New Jersey kosher store

Two police officers were wounded, including one who was shot in the shoulder, and at least two civilians have also been wounded. At least one shooter fled into a kosher supermarket, where he began firing at police responding to the incident. The supermarket has been identified as the JC Kosher Supermarket on Martin Luther King Drive.

The wounded civilians were identified as members of the local hasidic Jewish community.

Two shooters, a male and a female, have reportedly been neutralized. A third suspect is reportedly still on the loose.

None of these are belt fed, nor automatic, and all are long range sniping rifles using the Browning-designed .50 BMG round.
