The U.S. Navy sailor who fatally shot two people at Pearl Harbor before killing himself was unhappy with his commanders and had been undergoing counseling, a military official said Friday.
Gabriel Romero, 22, also faced non-judicial punishment, which is a lower-level administrative process for minor misconduct, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss personnel matters not made public. He used his two service weapons in the attack, the official said.

Romero, who was from Texas and enlisted in the Navy two years ago, was dead when authorities arrived, and he was armed for his job standing watch and providing security for the fast attack submarine USS Columbia, which is at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for maintenance, officials said.
Retired Army Col. Gregory Gross, a former military judge, said that just because Romero faced non-judicial punishment doesnt automatically mean he should have been taken off watch duty. It could have been something as simple as you were late for work, said Gross, who presided over part of the court-martial for the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood in Texas.

It was not known if Romero knew his victims, Roldan Agustin, 49, and Vincent Kapoi Jr., 30. Agustin was born in Laoag City, Philippines, and moved to Hawaii when he was 2, according to his mother, Aida Agustin.

Captain's Mast (aka "NJP") used to be a rite of passage for rowdy sailors. These days it's a career-ending ticket out of the Navy.
Yup. Gun free zones work so well.
Uh, not rowdy but drinking underage (20) off base got me 30 days confined on the ship at captain’s mast. Of course when you’re out to sea for a couple weeks training during the 30 days makes it a little easier. I was an E-2 at the time so what did I know? Well I knew not to be drinking in the bar but NOOOOOOOO. LOL! Good times.
Rome built an empire on the practice of military service resultingin citizenship. It wasn’t until 225 a.d. the the emperor Caracalla screwed things up by granting universal citizenship to everyone living within the borders of the Roman empire. Thus ended the incentive for military service. The Western empire was finished.
Point being that with all it’s warts citizenship in exchange for military service is a foundational to the western heritage.
A lot has changed since 9/11.
Now, they carry a 9mm sidearm and either an M4 or a 12 gauge shotgun.
What are you smoking?
There’s one on every thread.
Ok. What part of this is difficult for you? I just can’t understand. You are an adult with at least an average intelligence? Ok. So I will go real slow for you. This is a video. By video I do mean moving pictures... With sound! I know. Very very exciting.
This is a video of a Nazi sham trial. So. I wonder what this could possibly have to do with the impeachment trial?
Think, think, think... Well this is really exhausting. I just can’t possibly figure it out. Far to deep.
So I responded to the wrong thread. However I continue to be aghast at your thick headed stupidity. So here is a quote from you that I am responding to:
“We continue to offer young male dysfunctionals from foreign lands or from migrant families the immediate opportunity to trade military service for automatic U.S. citizenship. We are probably the only country on the planet doing this. People understand intuitively you dont open your countrys military to foreign nationals and then expect any other result than what happened here. They can make all the excuses they want. This has happened before and it will continue so long as the policy is in force.”
I gave you a historical context for what we are doing with military service. Not terribly hard to understand. Yet somehow, someway, you can’t comprehend. Apparently thinking, is an unusually difficult thing for you to do. It is not complex. It is not obscure. Rome for centuries traded military service for citizenship. We sit upon a world built by Rome. It is our heritage of law, finance, engineering, agriculture and the administrative State.
So how is this difficult for you to make the connection? Surely you bounced on your head when you fell off the back of the turnip truck? A provincial rube perhaps? I don’t know. But it is always fun to run into people who lack the very most basic analytical skills. Cheers.
