Biden: 'Best people' for posts, but they could be donors

Joe Biden declined Friday to rule out appointing political donors to ambassadorships or other posts if he wins the 2020 presidential election . But he pledged that his nominees, regardless of their contributor status, would be the "best people" for their posts.

Biden's position diverges from fellow Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren , who has sworn off high-dollar fundraisers and repeatedly mocked the longstanding bipartisan practice of U.S. presidents distributing ambassadorships around the world to some of their top campaign donors.

"I'm going to appoint the best people possible," Biden said Friday aboard his campaign bus in rural Iowa. "Nobody, in fact, will be appointed by me based on anything they contributed."

Still, he added, "you have some of the people out there ... that are fully qualified to head up everything from being the ambassador to NATO to be ambassador to France ... who may or may not have contributed." But he insisted those contributions "would not be any basis" for his decision.

You declare your biggest donors “the best people” for the jobs and then appoint them.

If Biden is the nominee, he’ll be the Walter Mondale of the
21st century. Because of changing demographics, DJT won’t win 49 States like Reagan but he should be able to pull out at least 40. Especially if the economy holds.

I'm going to appoint the best people possible

I saw that at the end of the first Indiana Jones movie. Art imitating life.

This from the man who thinks his deadbeat drug-addled son is fully qualified to be a member of a board of directors of a country’s largest energy company when he knows nothing about their business, their country, or even the native language!

Yep. Donate $100k and get a plush job in a European capital or some exotic country.

Which is why it's time we reconsider how and why ambassadors are appointed.

As others have noted this has been going on for a long time and both parties do it.

If ambassadors don't need vetting or credentials or even need to know the language of the country they work in, what do they actually do of any consequence other than appear at ceremonial events or stab the President in the back?

“I saw that at the end of the first Indiana Jones movie. Art imitating life.”

Art imitating life? Like Trump duct taping Biden to the wall and selling him to the DNC?

Like his son, Humpher.

Humpher was really qualified for whatever he did.

“”to head up everything from being the ambassador to NATO to be ambassador to France””

That’s what surprised me about the woman (Yovanovitch) who testified a couple of weeks ago who was a CAREER State Department employee. I thought all ambassadors were from the long list of campaign donors.

“”Yovanovitch joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1986. Her first foreign assignment, in Ottawa, was followed by overseas assignments including Moscow, London, and Mogadishu. From May 1998 to May 2000 she served as the Deputy Director of the Russian Desk in the U.S. Department of State.[13]””

PLUS this - my belief of where ambassadors come from usually:

“”A wealthy former hotel magnate from Oregon, Sondland was tapped for the EU ambassador position after donating $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee..””
