By the way, what evidence is there of bal ks being selectivley “bred”?

Where did Jimmy the Greek get that notion? He was no historian.

The best argument for anything approaching “breeding” is the historical fact that the weak and sickly captive people died on the slave ships. Only the strong survived the brutal passage.

It’s not genetic. It’s cultural.

Most of the so called evolving was actually breeding of slaves for back breaking jobs in the field. Jimmy the Greek had it correct and was fired for saying it.

They were bred for back breaking jobs. Don’t kid yourself. The weak became house servants.

At a recent training in Colorado, the dozen teachers who had volunteered to participate in the experiment acknowledged the challenges of inserting the combustible topic of race and ancestry into straightforward lessons on the 19th-century pea-breeding experiments of Gregor Mendel and the basic function of the strands of DNA coiled in every cell.
.
.
.
That view stems from the history of today’s racial categories, which arose long before the field of genetics and have been used to justify all manner of discriminatory policies. Race, a social concept bound up in culture and family, is not a topic of study in modern human population genetics, which typically uses concepts like “ancestry” or “population” to describe geographic genetic groupings.

But that has not stopped many Americans from believing that genes cause racial groups to have distinct skills, traits and abilities.

Twelve biology teachers are going to tell us how there's nothing genetic about the NFL being 68% black and the NBA 75% black, and then they're no doubt also going to tell us that men can have periods.

The training referred to was conducted at Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS) Science Learning, a non-profit headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. Led by Brian Donovan, they are on a mission to eliminate genetic essentialism which is essentially the belief that genetics greatly influence who we are. To Donovan et al., genetic essentialism leads to subcategories of essentialism making it the mother of all discrimination, hence the push to eradicate it.

This is part of the program under which the twelve biology teachers were indoctrinated. Gee, twelve teachers sent out into the world. Such a familiar ring...

https://bscs.org/our-work/rd-programs/towards-a-more-humane-genetics-education/

No surprise here that one of the sins of genetic essentialism is that it spawned gender essentialism which ascribes differences to gender and therefore is a major element of discrimination against transgenders. To wit from a 2019 paper published in Science Library.

Gendered Genetics: How reading about the genetic basis of sex differences in biology textbooks could affect beliefs associated with science gender disparities
Brian M. Donovan, Molly A.M. Stuhlsatz, Daniel C. Edelson, Zoë E. Buck Bracey

Our study explores a form of gender essentialism called neuro-genetic-essentialism, which is the belief that inherent differences in the genes and brains of men and women are a significant cause of gender differences in behavior, intellect, and abilities (Dar-Nimrod & Heine, 2011; Haslam, 2011).

The higher a person scores on neuro-genetic-essentialism scales, the greater the gender bias they exhibit. Experimental activation of neuro-genetic-essentialism can increase transgender prejudice (Ching & Xu, 2017) and gender stereotyping (V. Brescoll & LaFrance, 2004). When men who score high on sexism scales are led to believe that scientific findings support biological explanations of gender difference (versus that science still debates the biological basis of gender difference) they are: (i) more likely to endorse neuro-genetic-essentialism; (ii) view the treatment of men and women in society as fair; (iii) support the social dominance of men in society; and (iv) support gender discriminatory practices (Morton, Postmes, Haslam, & Hornsey, 2009). When neuro-genetic-essentialism is experimentally induced in women, it can reduce their performance on achievement tests (Dar-Nimrod & Heine, 2006; Moè, 2012) and also increase their tendency to engage in gender self-stereotyping (Coleman & Hong, 2008). Belief in neuro-genetic-essentialism can therefore perpetuate sociocultural mechanisms that cause gender inequality.

We are in a multi-front war that never stops producing new fronts.

Bingo. Overt racism against blacks is pretty much gone. But unfortunately that has been replaced by a very damaging do-nothing welfare culture.

I taught for many years in an urban high school. And I saw black kids tease other black kids for bringing textbooks home. I saw that many times.

Side story: One of the schools I taught in was about 50% white and 50% black. I would stay after school a couple of times a week to help anyone who had math or science questions. And the kids who came were almost all black. Very few white kids.

I’m still not sure why that was.

Bred how? Put in pens to mindlessly rut?

Just how evil do you believe the slaveowners to have been to do such a thing?

How depraved to you believe the people they “owned” to have been to have complied?

Interesting the article avoids a discussion of Darwin’s racism and the resulting Eugenics movement that resulted.

Eugenics were big in the United States and Germans adopted the theories. They began with sterilizing the mentally weak. Then killing off those that were a burden on the state. Then those that were undesirables: homosexuals, gypsies, Jews.

On the Origin of Species, published on 24 November 1859, is a work of scientific literature by Charles Darwin which is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology. Its full title was On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life

Twenty-eight of the last 38 world record holders in the men’s 100-meter dash have been black athletes, and researchers at two universities think they know why.

A new study by researchers at Howard University, a historically black school in Washington D.C., and Duke University in North Carolina suggests why black athletes may outperform athletes of other races in running events. Physical differences in the length of the limbs and the structure of the body mean the center of gravity tends to be higher in the bodies of black people, the researchers say.

Since 1968, the world record holders in the men’s 100-meter dash have been black athletes. And since 1912, when the International Association of Athletics Federations started keeping track of the record holders in that event, only 10 non-black athletes out of 38 individuals have held the title.

Can Biology Class Reduce Racism?

__________

It should reduce racism.

The more we learn about the sciences of life/growth/biology/etc., the less we will even consider race as anything consequential.

Slave Family Life Previous Next
Digital History ID 3042

Slave marriages and family ties were not recognized by American law. Any owner was free to sell husbands from wives, parents from children, and brothers from sisters. Many large slaveholders had numerous plantations and frequently shifted slaves, splitting families in the process.

The most conservative estimates indicate that at least 10 to 20 percent of slave marriages were destroyed by sale. The sale of children from parents was even more common. As a result of the sale or death of a father or mother, over a third of all slave children grew up in households from which one or both parents were absent.

On large plantations, one slave father in three had a different owner than his wife, and could visit his family only at his master’s discretion. On smaller holdings, divided ownership and mother-headed households occurred even more frequently. Many slaves had to share their single room cabins with relatives or other unrelated slaves. Even on model plantations, children between the ages of 7 and 10 were taken from their parents and sent to live in separate cabins.

Despite the frequent breakup of families by sale, African-Americans managed to forge strong and durable family and kin ties within the institution of slavery. Most slaves married and lived with the same spouse until death, and most slave children grew up in two parent households. To sustain a sense of family identity, slaves often named their children after parents, grandparents, recently deceased relatives, and other kin. Slaves passed down family names to their children, usually the name of an ancestor’s owner rather than their current owner’s. The strength of slave families is nowhere more evident than in the advertisements slaveowners posted for runaway slaves. Over a third of the advertisements indicate that fugitives left an owner to visit a spouse, a child, or other relatives.

Ties to an immediate family stretched outward to an involved network of extended kin. Family destruction and dispersal created extended kinship networks stretching across whole counties. Whenever children were sold to neighboring plantations, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins often took on the functions of parents. When blood relatives were not present, strangers cared for and protected children.

From what I’ve read they had huts or shacks and they would issue them to whichever slaves they wanted together. I’m sure much of it was mixed between who the slaves wanted to be with and who they were ‘shacked up’ with.

If the ‘house N-word’ got to live in servant quarters in the house they were somewhat isolated from the plantation workers in shacks.

I’m sure many of these plantation owners knew how to breed the strongest mules and meatiest hogs. Don’t think they didn’t try and to a certain amount succeed in determining which human beings had children with which other human being.

Not a pretty thought. Quite despicable actually But if you keep people as you would livestock, this happens. Criminal really.

In the antebellum years, numerous escaped slaves wrote about their experiences in books called slave narratives. Many recounted that at least a portion of slave owners continuously interfered in the sexual lives of their slaves (usually the women). The slave narratives also testified that slave women were subjected to arranged marriages, forced matings, sexual violation by masters, their sons or overseers, and other forms of abuse. Skeptics maintain that reports from witnesses were apocryphal, and never specified a particular place in which breeding practices were alleged to have occurred.[citation needed]

The historian E. Franklin Frazier, in his book The Negro Family, stated that “there were masters who, without any regard for the preferences of their slaves, mated their human chattel as they did their stock.” Ex-slave Maggie Stenhouse remarked, “Durin’ slavery there were stockmen. They was weighed and tested. A man would rent the stockman and put him in a room with some young women he wanted to raise children from.”[1

This is a fact, there are reasons for it and they are in fact genetic:

of whether genetics can explain why African-Americans are overrepresented as football players and why a disproportionate number of American scientists are white or Asian.

This is stupid:

They are testing the idea that the science classroom may be the best place to provide a buffer against the unfounded genetic rationales for human difference that often become the basis for racial intolerance.

Much of everything about any of us is because of genetics.

These people have lost their freaking minds.

Although Jews make up only 0.2 percent of the world’s
population, they win 22 percent of Nobel Prizes.

Couldn’t have anything to do with genetics, could it?
