Law professor schools Democratic lawmakers on impeachment: Says they haven’t done their homework

A rush to judgment.

A possible abuse of power.

Seriously, how did Democrats even let these kinds of sacrilege statements about their Trump impeachment process into their impeachment hearings?

There must have been a mistake, because here was a George Washington University law professor, making many Democrats uncomfortable by suggesting the impeachment train may be moving too fast.

“This isn’t an impulse buy item,” professor Jonathan Turley testified on Wednesday. “You’re trying to remove a duly elected president of the United States. And that takes time. It takes work.”

Work? Surely Turley must be deluded, because this is clearly not about hard work.

Posturing, sure. Grandstanding, yes. Work, no.

Watergate took two years to finally get to the point of moving to impeach Richard Nixon.

This is like two months, and Democrats are getting set for an impeachment vote.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her yes-woman posse aren’t waiting. The predetermined vote to impeach President Trump will take place before the end of this decade, no matter what “evidence” surfaces at these hearings.

Turley, the only legal scholar Republicans were allowed to call, suggested that was a serious mistake.

“Impeachments require a certain period of saturation and maturation,” he said. “That is, the public has to catch up … If you rush this impeachment, you’re going to leave half the country behind.”

The concerns raised by Turley strike at the heart of some lawmakers’ squeamishness with impeachment. Even Pelosi used to believe that it was dangerous for Democrats to try to remove Trump without the support of at least a clear majority of the people — including some Republicans.

Privately, at least, some Democrats, especially those who live in swing districts, still believe that. But they won’t say a word because they don’t want to be vilified as Republican sympathizers, spouting “Republican talking points.”

Turley did not come across as a partisan die-hard Trump supporter, yet his testimony will largely be ignored by the Democrats because it didn’t fit the narrative they are trying to forge in these hearings.

“It’s not that you can’t do this (impeachment), it’s just that you can’t do it this way,” Turley testified.

Turley also warned Democrats not to impeach Trump based on just a “narrow” set of articles focused on Ukraine, and criticized the party for upgrading the crime Trump allegedly committed as “bribery.”

These concerns were quickly dismissed by Democratic leaders and the three other law professors Democrats called to buttress their impeachment case.

But Turley’s words could come back to haunt Democrats when voters go to the polls next November. Many, especially independents and those in swing states, are uneasy with or downright hostile to the whole impeachment process, and would rather decide for themselves whether Trump stays in office.

One thing these hearings have proven loud and clear is that democrats should never be allowed to gain power over us. They’ll abuse every bit of power they get the second they get it.

The problem isn’t that the Democrats are lazy — its their willful invention of nonexistent grounds for impeachment and their failure to apply due process. If their hard work has not uncovered any treason, bribery, etc., by now, it’s time for them to call it quits.

Fear of disclosure has killed the voice of reason.

After all these years of trying they STILL have not found anything to pin on Trump.

And they are not going to at this point.

I was surprised to read that Turley is a democrat and voted for Obama. This left the Rats unable to accuse him of being partisan. I’m sure he will be intimidated some other way. However he doesn’t seem the type to be intimidated.

The Rats will have more “ charges” to bring forward. Don’t worry. They’ll string this assault out for months. That’s the real plan. Keep the drumbeat up.

Nope, the power-brokers at the DNC think they have the votes and that they can bully their way to the finish.

Phooey!

Nothing more than foot stomping and breath holding by petulant children who desperately need a sound spanking.

I wonder if the Dims are actually deluded enough to think they can retake the Senate in 2020 and are stalling until then so they have a better chance of removing Trump.
