The Senate Confirmed Four Federal Judges While The House Heard Impeachment Testimony

The Senate confirmed four trial court nominees to the federal bench Wednesday, among them a public interest lawyer Democrats say will trim abortion rights.

The package passed as the House Judiciary Committee heard testimony from constitutional scholars pursuant to its impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.

Senators confirmed Sarah Pitlyk to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri on a 49-44 vote that largely followed party lines.

“Sarah’s strong legal experience, sharp intellect, and commitment to the rule of law make her an outstanding choice for the Eastern District,” GOP Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri said in a statement. “I was proud to recommend her to President Trump, and I am confident that she will serve the people of Missouri as a principled and fair judge for decades to come.”

Conservative groups made a last-minute push for Pitlyk after a Republican defection raised the prospect of a narrow confirmation vote. GOP Sen. Susan Collins of Maine opposed Pitlyk, citing concerns over judicial temperament.

Thanks. I know people get frustrated when some in our party go against us, but all we need to do is outvote them...rather than remove and try to purify. Don’t forget, we had a pure-as-wind-driven-snow conservative all set to fill an open Alabama Senate seat (Roy Moore) - and we couldn’t even hold that seat, IN ALABAMA. Lose Collins in Maine and it will be a generation before we get another Republican Senate seat in New England.

And one other thing to note: If we had only ONE other RINO in the US Senate in 2010 (in place of a Democrat), there would be NO OBAMACARE today. The Dems had the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster, and they needed EVERY one of those 60 votes, and not a single Republican voted with the Dems for Obamacare, including RINOs (and that was true in the House too).

Senator Susan Collins, while obtuse and slow witted, is also ugly.

“Did Collins cost the obviously outstanding Ratcliffe the DNI post? (yes)”

So that’s it? The HELL with the Supreme Court, the HELL with the lower courts. And, I guess, the hell with the country. All over one nomination for one person for a cabinet post?

Question for you: Was it the fault of Collins that Trump chose a Deep State Republican to replace Ratcliff? (nope, sorry)

“As of right now, 168. One more and he’ll have appointed 20% of the entire judiciary. One in five judges.”

Thank you for keeping track for us! Man, that makes my heart just SING!

Trump. 2020. Landslide! MAGA! KAG! :)

You are correct and I am still amazed that many of us can’t see this. As much as I personally don’t care for her, without her vote for Kavenaugh; he would have lost.

We have a difference of opinion because we cannot allow Democrats to win. We play to stop Democrats at all costs.

Yes, it is her fault. It was made clear the GOP controlled Senate was not going to confirm a strong supporter oF POTUS to the DNI post. The GOP did the same with his Fed picks, obviously. It’s one of the ways the GOPe hamstrings POTUS.

You don’t feel stopping the active coup inside the executive branch against a GOP POTUS should be the priority of the GOP now? Interesting.

Sorry, I’m not going to count my chickens on these judges just yet since history is replete with failed GOP judicial noms: Souter, Kennedy, Blackmun, Roberts, etc., etc. I could list more but you should get my drift there.

Are you suggesting a GOP Senator gets kudos for confirming a GOP SCOTUS nom? That a nightly low bar you are setting. Microscopically low, actually.

Had the Democrats controlled the Senate he wouldn’t have gotten in. That is the point.

So you’re admitting there’s not a dimes worth of difference between Collins and a Democrat on the coup? At least we are getting somewhere.

Regardless, good to have these Trump judges confirmed.
